The Role

We are seeking Technical Mechanical Specialist, specifically across Tanks & Tails for a fly in fly out position with Lihir Gold Limited in Papua New Guinea. Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, you will be responsible for providing maintenance planning strategies, schedules and monitoring of the Process Plant's operational maintenance work group specifically in the Tanks and Tails area of the plant area and provide technical direction to the supervisors, planners and the maintenance teams.
  • You will be proactively hands-on being able to go out into the Tanks & Tails area and know how to re-build pumps, gearboxes, valves and basic flange management skill for example and be willing to impart your technical knowledge onto your team.
  • You will be supporting supervisors by mentoring and developing them to upskill across preventative planning maintenance systems and work management as it relates to Tanks and Tails in the fixed plant.
  • You will hold strong experience across CCD's, NCA / CIL, Tanks, Agitators, Gearboxes, Pumps and Piping and factors influencing standard maintenance business practice KPIs essential.
  • You will have a great ability in being able to identify skill set gaps across the Tanks and Tails maintenance work team and be proactive in ensuring those gaps are solved through your mentoring and training support.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Relevant Mechanical Engineering trades qualification ideally from a Fitter background.
  • 8+ years relevant work experience essential
  • Good familiarity and technical skills with P&IDs and technical drawings essential.
  • Ability to coach / mentor and develop training plans for team members essential.
  • Willingness to be on the job training essential.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite and departmental ERP systems including SAP desirable.
  • Working at heights, confined space entry, rigging and dogging certification desirable.
  • Overhead travelling crane operation certificate desirable.
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar desirable.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
  • Previous expatriate work experience desirable.

Mobilisation Requirements:
  • Must be open to work FIFO in PNG
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
