Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance. Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer.

Who we're looking for

Reporting into the Senior Mine Surveyor, the primary purpose of this position is to contribute to the safe, cost effective production of the Telfer open pit mine site by providing accurate and timely Survey and Void Interaction services.

In this critical role, you will be accountable for ensuring accurate surveying of the site through the supervision and provision of data collection, analysis and reporting. You will also play a key role in assisting mining personnel with the mine design, providing efficient delivery mine plans, and generating regular reporting to aid with contractor claims.

Our ideal candidate will have a degree or advanced diploma in Surveying or similar, have a passion for innovative technologies, and a desire to learn and grow. You will come from an extensive background in hard rock open pit or underground mining. We are also open to those coming from a Civil Surveying background. You will also have;
  • Demonstrated experience using 3D data (e.g., scan data) and mining software for surveying, production, geotechnical, planning or other applications
  • Expertise in processing and analysing data from mobile mapping systems or CMS
  • Experience with mining data management, survey and mining software, Vulcan, Pix4D and Global Mapper and Point Studeio
  • A relevant licence and experience with UAV and drone operations will be highly beneficial
  • Experience with GPS systems will be advantageous
