POSITION SUMMARY

Metallurgical Specialist/Mill Trainer position requires extensive knowledge of the science and experience in the art and practice of grinding, selective polymetallic sulfide mineral flotation, dewatering and water treatment.



Safety, Health & Environmental Responsibilities AND Accountabilities

  • Receiving training and instruction as required
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Position Responsibilities
  • Instruct, coach, and help mill operators to implement methods of improving the recovery of silver, zinc, gold, and lead, while improving grades of lead, zinc and bulk concentrates and reducing mill operating costs.
  • Guide mill operators in proper science-based decision making using all metallurgical information available to achieve optimal process plant performance.
  • Review and watch over internal mill construction projects, working with maintenance, contractors, and operations personnel to smoothly complete improvement projects in the mill.
  • Help expedite mill construction projects.
  • Ensures appropriate project communications are maintained with employees operating and maintaining the equipment.
  • Supervisory accountability for these projects and employees may be assigned, based upon previous experience, or developed proficiency.
  • Coach, counsel, make recommendations, and initiate disciplineas needed.
  • Take the lead in any emergency and understand HGCMC emergency response book.
  • Provide safety training, perform job observations as required, and review safe work practices with employees as needed.
  • Train and develop employees to improve their capabilities.
  • Ensure employees have the tools, equipment, supplies, guidance, and support to succeed.
  • Assist in creation, enforcement, and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Departmental Responsibilities

  • The Metallurgical Specialist will have the responsibility of interfacing with the plant operations group to ensure that plant operations and metallurgical targets are being maintained during any project construction period.
  • This includes working with the operators in the areas of grinding, flotation, and dewatering.
  • The metallurgical specialist will try to minimize overall mill downtime or lost mill feed resulting from bottlenecks or reduced availability within the mill during any project construction period.
  • Will be assigned other metallurgical duties when no projects are in progress such as training and safety improvement tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

Five or more years’ experience in mineral processing flotation plant operations.

Preferred: Two or more years of supervisory experience in an industrial setting

Preferred: Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Other Qualifications

ATF possessor’s clearance required.

Must complete MSHA 40-hour training or provide 5000-23 documentation of completed training.

Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen

While performing the duties of this job, employees may be frequently required to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; use hand and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Other Physical Demands

Vision - Constant:
  • Able to judge distances and spatial relationships to avoid accidents while driving and walking underground.
  • Have clarity of vision while operating machinery, reading gauges, and identifying lithologies.
  • Have clarity of vision for distances while navigating within the mine, on access roads and in helicopter.
  • Able to adjust varying points of reference while safely navigating the terrain, maintaining awareness of traffic, and operating tools and machinery.
  • Able to identify people and hazards in peripheral vision.
  • Able to distinguish minerals by their color.

Speaking - Occasional:

  • Able to clearly communicate with co-workers and supervisors on the radio and in person.
Hearing - Occasional:

  • Must wear hearing protection while working in the mine.


Work Environment & Job Schedule
Employees may be frequently exposed to underground work environments; outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in most work environments is usually very loud. This position may occasionally require work on nights or weekends.
