The Role

We are seeking a Senior Specialist Mechanical Fabrication & Sandblasting to work at the Lihir Gold Limited operation in Papua New Guinea on a residential basis. Reporting to the Superintendent - Maintenance Services this role will require you to manage the fabrication contract by auditing the Contractor's compliance to Safety, Quality and Service Levels while ensuring all works are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner. You will oversee around 60 personnel including contractors with close to 10 direct reports. Applicants that apply will hold considerable Mechanical and Fabrication Workshop Management experience.

You will exhibit:
  • Strong Health, Safety and Environmental leadership capability within the context of this role.
  • Strong technical understanding and knowledge of Maintenance Mechanical and Fabrication leadership exposure.
  • A proven ability to having worked at this level previously and hold project management and scheduling experience.
  • Management of cost within Maintenance Services inclusive of shutdown work particularly in the area of crane operations.
  • Large-scale shutdown experience within Fixed Plant Processing plant as well.
  • Strong stakeholder management capability with excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to be the lead conduit within the Fabrication and Sandblasting Workshop and have the ability to work constructively with a diverse group of people.
  • Conducts audits on works to ensure a reasonable amount of time and materials are being recorded and invoiced.
  • Conducts QA/QC audits on fabricated parts and ensures rectification is completed before material comes to site.
  • Delivers work within approved budget managing any variances in accordance with escalation process.
  • Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Trade or Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Fabrication essential.
  • Contractor Management (Essential)
  • 3 to 5 years relevant work experience essential in managing vendor contracts preferably within a mining environment or related industry across workshop management in fabrication.
  • Exposure to working on remote mine sites, within developing countries where multi-national workforces are utilised (essential).
  • Scheduling and Project Management capability.
  • Diploma or certification in related field (desirable).
  • Skilled in the use of SAP software (desirable) and proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite essential including Word and Excel.
  • Experience working at a 2IC Superintendent level within this job scope ideal
  • Trade's certificate essential accreditation from the Institute of Engineers PNG Inc. to be completed as part of work permit process.
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar, highly desirable.
  • Supervisor/Leadership training (essential)
  • Ability to provide governance and monitor progress to ensure compliance and best-practice of Maintenance Services are followed safely and effectively.
  • Experience and commitment to developing and mentoring national colleagues by providing feedback, coaching, and formal training where required.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation and communication capability.
  • Works in accordance with PNG Mine Safety Act, Newcrest Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures and Newcrest Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures.
  • Proven ability to foster strong, professional relationships to identify problems, resolve conflicts and implement solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills, ensuring the capability to meet deadlines and KPIs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of self-motivation, with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.

Mobilisation Requirements:
  • This is a residential role at Lihir Gold Limited in Papua New Guinea.
  • Ability to provide valid police clearance within the last six months.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
