Dimensions

This position will be reporting to the Senior Exploration Geologist. Significant contribution to the Minex team's goal of increasing mineral resources.

Purpose

To process, compile and interpret a significant amount of geologic information being generated by the Mine Exploration Team efforts. Work with contractors and work effectively and efficiently within the geology team and with other departments.

Safety and Sustainability Expectations
  • Accountable for own health and safety performance. Maintain Triple Zero standards.
  • Promote, communicate and follow operating procedures, Newmont Exploration Standards and Guidelines and Newmont's Fatality Risk Management (FRM) system.
  • Ensure exploration activities will not cause unsafe working and environmental situations. Timely reporting and correction of issues.


Essential Duties

  • Logging of 'minex' diamond drill core, (incl. geo-technical data). Selection of sample sites, ongoing implementation of the QA-QC programs.
  • Supervision of any sample collection, storage, shipment performed by technicians
  • Track drilling progress on daily basis.
  • Utilize industry-standard software to compile and interpret 3-D location, geologic & assay results. Timely plotting of data
  • Inform supervisor of new assay results, geologic opinions/suspicions, etc.
  • Contribute to target selection, follow-up. Design holes, provide drillers with layouts.
  • Visit U/G drill sites to spot holes, assess safety & technical requirements.
  • Assist with resource modelling, estimations.

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (Geology) degree or Geological Technician's diploma with equivalent experience
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain Professional Geologist designation.
  • 3 years of gold exploration experience, of which 1-2 should be within a mining environment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Innovative and a proven ability to work with others.
  • Computer literacy is required. Working knowledge of the MS Office, industry-standard digital logging, and database entry.
  • Experience with general mine planning software (Vulcan, Leapfrog, Deswik, acQuire) an asset.
  • Ability to communicate clearly & confidently, on a timely basis.
  • Industry-standard training in First-Aid, WHIMIS, an asset.


Working Conditions

  • Ability to perform a variety of specialized tasks within a high-energy, dynamic mining environment
  • Physically demanding work. Heavy lifting commonly required.
  • Comfortable when working underground.
  • This position is located at Hoyle Pond, part of Newmont's Porcupine mine site near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 5x2 schedule. As such, if you do not live near the site, we will require relcoation.
