About the Company/Project
The Company's Lost Sheep fluorspar mine and its surrounding claims are located at the Spor Mountain area, Juab County, Utah, approximately 214 km (133 miles) south-west of Salt Lake City, Utah. The project consists of 67 claims spanning a 1,447 acre area. The mine is a fully producing, permitted project and selling fluorspar to brokers and steel mills in the United States. The fluorspar found at the Lost Sheep mine naturally occurs at grades high enough to be accepted by the industry as direct shipping product.
The Company has begun upgrading the mining and processing facilities, with expanded mine designs, and the design of a new high capacity plant to significantly increase mine production. The mine is currently the only producing fluorspar mine in the U.S, and with a large domestic fluorspar market available to the Company, we are well placed to become an integral part of the country's supply chain.
About the Job
Under the supervision and direction of the Plant Manager and Senior Metallurgist, the Chief Assayer manages and executes the total operation of the metallurgical laboratory at the processing site. This includes manpower, scheduling, and reporting of all facets of the laboratory operations. Reporting of information will be instrumental in the overall plant operations, mine production and exploration, and final saleable concentrates.
The Chief Assayer will work in concert with the Project Director, Procurement Manager and Senior Metallurgical Engineer; and other department heads in the design, budgeting, development, commissioning and operations of the assay laboratory.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work within the Company’s framework of the Environmental, Health and Safety, and Community Relation policy and procedure.
- Design and development of standard operation procedures (SOP’s) for all ongoing procedures within the laboratory. Analysis and reporting of up to 200 samples per day with on-time reporting to plant / mine areas.
- Assist in the design, construction, and commissioning of the Company’s Lost Sheep metallurgical and assay complex. This includes but is not limited to sample receipt, sample preparation, drying, weighing, and wet assay facility.
- Oversee and manage the on-site metallurgical laboratory and assay facility. This includes training of personal within the facility.
- Assist Environmental Department in the design and implementation of programs to monitor plant chemicals and internal water quality.
- Assist department heads in assembling the corporate operating budget and schedule based on department operating and scheduling parameters within the laboratory.
- Assist in the development of budget summaries, and expenditure schedules.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- University Degree in chemical related field.
- Minimum 10 year’ experience in a mining and/or mineral resource project.
- Advanced level in planning and scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Fluorite experience a definite asset.
