Located in the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance. Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer.



Who we are looking for

A permanent opportunity has arisen for a motivated and passionate Drill & Blast Engineer to help deliver best practice at our Telfer Open Pit Mine. This role is ideal for a candidate who is looking to develop and broaden their skill set in a professional and supportive environment. You will be engaging with various stakeholder groups to ensure that objectives are resolved, and you will be encouraged to make decisions and take ownership of those decisions.

Reporting to the Senior Engineer Drill and Blast and working alongside other Drill and Blast Engineers, the key deliverables of this role include:
  • Delivery of Open Pit drill and blast design functions to allow contract surface mining operations to mine safe and efficiently
  • Ensuring drill and blast designs, tie-ins and approvals are completed before schedule requirement
  • Monitoring blasting and operational performance and implement changes to improve performance
  • Supporting mine scheduling and design functions to support safe, cost effective open pit production


To succeed in this role, you will appreciate working in an inclusive team environment and will genuinely care to make a real difference. You will have a good understanding of open-pit mining operations and the natural ability to think quickly on your feet, build relationships and manage stakeholders. Your excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills will see you promote a site wide, team-based culture between employees, departments and contractors.

In addition to the above key skills, you will also have:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering
  • Experience in Drill and Blast open pit mining
  • Well-rounded stakeholder management experience and excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Vulcan
  • Power BI and BlastLogic experience is desirable



Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8/6), flying out of Perth.
