GEOTECHNICAL & VENTILATION ENGINEER
Alexco Resource Corp. owns the majority of the historic high-grade Keno Hill Silver District located in Canada’s Yukon Territory. With nearly 1,000 meters of underground development completed at our two new deposits and a robust Pre- Feasibility Study released, Alexco has advanced to production. This is a great opportunity to be part of the team that is building one of the highest-grade silver operations in the world. The company has an immediate opening for a Geotechnical & Ventilation Engineer. POSTION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, the Geotechnical & Ventilation Engineer is responsible to ensure the safe ventilation and provide technical support for all ground control activities at the mine. This will be a 14 day on / 14 day off rotation at our Keno Hill Mine in Elsa, Yukon.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
• Respect, know and promote company regulations and policies, particularly with regard to health and safety;
• Issue all plans and specifications necessary for the installation of ground support and ventilation products;
• Present the ventilation installation planning in accordance with development priorities recommended by
engineering;
• Participate in the maintenance of the ventilation on demand by performing calibrations of flow meters
underground;
• Review 3-month plans to develop a self-managed ventilation work plan over the same period;
• Discuss changes in ventilation systems with, Survey, Mine Planners and Designers as early as possible to allow
an effective evaluation of all possible options for effective ventilation changes;
• Compile and issue high-quality instructions and drawings for installation or repair in order to communicate
necessary ventilation work to Operations;
• Undertake frequent underground tours, in order to carry out ventilation and ground control inspections of
active mine areas and travel ways; and maintain accurate written records;
• Conduct Quality Assessment/Quality Control audits of installed ventilation systems and ground support systems;
• Responsible for providing expertise and applying rock mechanics principles to underground mine design
problems, including support for underground mine engineering ranging from conceptual studies to detailed engineering;
• Manage the work required to complete required calculations in a timely manner.
EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Engineering with 3-5 years experience ideally in the underground mining industry;
• College diploma in Mineral Technology with 5-8 years experience ideally in the underground mining industry;
• Experience in hard rock mine rock mechanics is preferred;
• Good computer skills, including Deswik, Ventsim, SIMS, Map 3D and Microsoft Office;
• Commit to safe work practices;
• Advanced knowledge of rock mechanics instrumentation and measurement techniques;
• Great communication skills;
• Able to work in a team environment.
