  • Leadership opportunity within our Iron Ore, Asset Management and Engineering Services division
  • Progress your career and lead innovation in long-term planning
  • Great opportunity to network, collaborate and partner with world-leading technology suppliers and maintenance planning professionals
  • Perth based with flexible working arrangements available, flexible hours and opportunity to work remotely

About the role

All progress begins with pioneers. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced maintenance planning and budgeting leader to lead strategic innovation in our long-term planning technology, processes and capability. You'll be deploying a world-first solution and processes that will radically enhance planning and budgeting processes and increase value delivery across Rio Tinto Iron Ore's (RTIO) 16 mines, privately owned and operated rail network and four independent ports.

Our asset management and engineering services division operates as a centralised maintenance planning function for our RTIO operational partners and as the Principal Advisor Long-term Planning, you will lead a large team of long-term planners, each accountable for the delivery of specific long-term plans and budgets to our mining operations across the Pilbara. You'll need to utilise your outstanding ability to partner with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including site-based operational and maintenance leaders, finance and risk advisors, and asset management service providers to deliver plans that optimise cost and risk to meet prevailing business objectives.

With support from the Manager, Productivity and Assurance, you will:
  • Transform the current business long-term planning processes and systems
  • Oversee the development and on-time approval of long-term maintenance plans and forecasts (for fixed plant and heavy mobile equipment) that optimise risk while meeting business objectives
  • Work closely with engineering teams to ensure that the zero-based long-term plans align with the standardised whole of life cost models for each asset class
  • Liaise with logistics and asset health teams to ensure that long-lead items and resources are provisioned on time
  • Analyse the conformance of maintenance execution with maintenance plans to identify improvement opportunities and work with asset data, engineering and finance teams throughout the change management process
  • Integrate the long-term plans for each operation into their respective maintenance shutdown calendars and provide input into the asset performance and planning process regarding Schedule Loss forecasts

In addition to the above, you will also play a role in contributing to the continuous improvement of the business annual planning process, in collaboration with our integrated operations team and finance business partners.

We are an open, connected global team that includes some of the industry's best and brightest minds. We offer competitive, performance-focused remuneration and a wide range of benefits to reward your contribution. With a global reach, the opportunities to develop and grow your career are broad and exciting.

What you'll bring

You are an experienced maintenance planning leader and excited by the challenge of working across an operation of this scale and complexity. You will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills and a solid understanding of the current planning and budgeting technologies available and have demonstrated performance in financial and risk analysis.

Previous experience working in a mining operation is not essential we appreciate experience gained through leading previous transformation programs, and in other related industries; including but not limited to defence, aviation and other resource sectors. A tertiary qualification in a related discipline will also be highly regarded.

What we offer

Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you've helped the world progress.
  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto
