THE ROLE
The Mine Superintendent is responsible to manage underground operations. Leads the General Foremen and Supervisors responsible for production and development in a manner that fosters individual accountability within clearly established parameters to ensure maximum productivity while adhering to provincial safety and environmental legislation, regulations, Company policy and procedure, and good management practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct mine operations to ensure that mine production plans (tonnes and grade) are achieved to feed the mill, safely and efficiently.
- Direct mine development, by owner’s and contractor’s crews, to ensure safe and efficient advance.
- Manage contracts associated with the mine to control costs and maintain critical path schedules.
- Develop and meet the mine operating budget to control mining costs and to maximize the ore body.
- Review and approve mine plans (short and long term).
- Contribute to the general management of the operation as a member of the senior management team.
- Co-ordinate activities and requirements with mine operations, engineering, maintenance, mill process, with respective superintendents.
- Participate in underground emergencies as the Emergency/Fire Control Officer responsible for all rescue and recovery operations.
- Promote and hold accountable all mine personnel to follow safety standards and achieve zero harm.
- Deal with labor relations issues promptly, in conjunction with the Human Resources Superintendent.
- Lead and develop subordinates so they add value to the company. Train and develop a successor.
- Serve on-call duties for senior management on weekends on a rotational basis.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Technical or university degree in Mining Engineering or related careers.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the Underground Mining Industry with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the role of Superintendent of Mine Operations and / or similar with exposure to all areas of underground operation (production, development).
- Experience in budget management and cost control.
- Experience in different exploitation methods, mainly cut and fill, long sublevel drilling.
- Experience in different filling methods, preferably filled with cemented paste.
