The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for the identification, measurement, and analysis of workplace health hazards, and for devising and developing methods for eliminating or controlling those hazards. The role involves work that is both theoretical and practical, based both in an office environment and out in the field. Communication of findings and recommendations for action will be central to the role. The Industrial Hygienist will also complete other tasks as assigned by the Safety Manager.

Responsibilities
:

•Identify, assess and communicate control requirements for existing and emerging site risks (inclusive of dust, noise/vibration, metal fumes, vapors, gases, mineral fibers, ergonomic stress and heat stress).

•Design and implement exposure and health monitoring programs,

•Develop and deliver occupational hygiene topics to supervision and workforce.

•Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.

•Conduct regular site audits to ensure performance and compliance requirements are being met.

•Liaise with technical experts to deliver system improvements

•Participate and/or lead accident/incident investigations and risk assessments and report or review findings on the cause and recommend preventive measures.

•Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.

•Develop and maintain the IH budget with approval from Safety and Health Manager.

Requirements
:

•Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene or related degree required.

•Two (2) to five (5) years' experience in Industrial Hygiene preferred

•Experience in the design and application of Industrial Hygiene programs in a mining or industrial setting preferred

•MSHA approved instructor certification for surface operations preferred.

•Professional safety certification (CSP or CIH) preferred.

•Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

•Proven ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time.

•Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas to a variety of audiences.
