Electrical Engineer – Cable Systems

Position Summary

Hatch is recruiting a ‘Cable Systems Electrical Engineer’ to join our dynamic team based in Dorking, Surrey. This is a technical and business development position within the Power Business Unit of Hatch and will provide an opportunity for professional growth within the Power Delivery & Integration (PD&I).

You will be an experienced cable system engineer, ideally with HVAC and HVDC systems onshore and offshore.

You will work both autonomously and collaboratively with other power departments, including HVDC/FACTS, T&D and the renewables team on related studies and proposals.

Responsibilities

You will carry out work on cable system projects performing a multitude of tasks such as:
  • All aspects of cable system design
  • Front End Engineering Design (FEED)
  • Overseeing the preparation of drawings e.g., planning applications and tender packages
  • Preparation of Specifications
  • Owners engineer/design assurance
  • Technical due diligence/advisory services
  • Business development to generate leads, secure MSA, prepare proposals
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to clients
  • Mentoring and developing junior engineers within the department
  • Maintaining close coordination with other relevant Hatch Business Units and Practices for cross selling and cross staffing opportunities


You will also undertake thought leadership activities, for example speaker at conferences, panelist, whitepaper etc., and you will promote Hatch’s ‘know-how’ in the Power and T&D sector within the region.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering; preference will be given to candidates with post-graduate (Master or PhD) degrees
  • Registered as a Chartered Engineer
  • Strong knowledge of Land and submarine high-voltage cables:
  • Experience in design, manufacturing, construction and/or operations of large electrical systems, emphasizing insulated cable facilities
  • Specifying HV (AC and DC) cables from 66kV to 525kV
  • Understanding of cable system design and related studies
  • Cable design and sizing optimization
  • Understanding of design issues relating to long transmission cables
  • Understanding of the design issues related to installation methods and conditions
  • Wind farm inter-array cable layout design.
  • Knowledge and understanding HV cables thermal performance
  • Minimum of 10 years experience
