Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Mine Engineer.Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career-oriented individual to fill this role.
Reporting to the Superintendent of Strategic Planning & Development, the Mine Engineer is accountable the life of mine and 5 year plans, contributes to the preparation of annual Reserve and Resource statements, provides technical services and engineering support to associated departments, and provides input to capital planning.This includes but is not limited to providing technical input and guidance to mine design processes, mine planning processes from weekly through LOM time frames, mine infrastructure construction projects, as well as providing guidance that directly supports the site’s strategic vision.
This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska and is a Monday through Friday schedule.
Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Protect the safety and health of employees by promoting safe working procedures and health programs in accordance with Teck Alaska policy and appropriate regulations
  • Provide mine engineering expertise for the operation and conduct studies related to new or future developments or opportunities relevant to the Red Dog deposit
  • Responsible for development and documentation of 5-year and life of mine (LOM) plans that are technically sound, economically viable, and compliant with internal standards and external regulations/programs (i.e. mining, environmental)
  • Provide reports to Senior Management and demonstrate ability to explain rationale for variances from the established production plan
  • Provide an effective engineering service and ensure maximum utilization of skills by developing staff, identifying training needs and evaluating performance
  • Communicate effectively with Operations, Geology and other technical groups and liaise with outside agencies to meet the overall objectives of the operation
  • Contribute to cost control by participating in annual budget preparation, monitoring and analyzing costs and explaining variances
  • Ensure that all Engineering services provided comply with environmental regulations and programs
  • Continually review and provide recommendations on continuous improvement opportunities
  • Mentor and develop Mine Engineers and EITs within the team
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • B.Sc. Engineering or equivalent with Mining, Civil or Geotechnical specialization
  • Professional Engineer designation is desired (or ability to obtain), in order to be able to act (as requested) as a Qualified Person under Canadian National Instrument 43-101 requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in open pit mining or a closely related field.Underground experience is also considered an asset
  • Experience in underground mine planning and/or underground mining practices is considered an asset
  • Must be experienced with mine planning software(s).Specific experience with MineSight planning software is an asset
  • Demonstrate advanced analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Functional knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Python, Perl) also considered an asset
  • Strong technical background including experience with mine projects, drilling and blasting, production planning and scheduling, reclamation and Geology
  • Experience with budgeting processes is an asset
  • Established Technical report writing skills, specifically, experience writing NI 43-101 technical report
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
