POSITION: Supervisor Strata Control
JOB GRADING: C-Upper
DEPARTMENT: Technical Services
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
Minimum Requirements:
- Be in possession of a Grade 12 Qualification with Mathematics and Science.
- Have 4 years underground experience in a mining environment.
- Have a Chamber of Mines Strata Control Certificate (for metalliferous mines).
- Have a valid driver's license and first aid certificate.
- Have operating proficiency of Microsoft Office, including relevant rock engineering computer software programs as well as a numerical modelling tools to produce reports and relevant numerical models.
- Be in possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification (advantageous).
- Be in possession of a blasting certificate (advantageous).
- Have mechanized mining experience (advantageous).
- Be declared medically fit for the position and the environment, as determined by the risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health and Safety Centre.
Key Competencies
- Responsible for providing rock engineering expertise and services to the mining, planning and engineering disciplines on a periodic basis. To meet the short term rock engineering demands of the company to ensure competitiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing Rock Engineering services to the Mining and Engineering disciplines on a periodic basis, including routine underground investigations, site-specific investigations, detailed FOG investigation and analyses.
- Take cognisance of applicable legislation and best practice principles with the ultimate goal and aim to perform the daily Rock Engineering activities at the operation in a responsible manner with quality and quantity of works as priority.
- Provide input into daily, weekly and monthly planning activities.
- Quality control of secondary support activities.
- Work within a dynamic team of professionals in the pursuance of the organization's goals.
- Provide a work ethic that ensures the health and safety of people.
- The incumbent is responsible for rock engineering services to support Production to achieve its objectives and goals, and to further ensure the least disruption and losses due to mining conditions.
- Planning of the job is done with his/her supervisor and co-workers, on a daily basis, to ensure appropriate monitoring and assessment of underground conditions, thus contributing to safe mining conditions.
- Organising and controlling are done in accordance with other stakeholders, e.g. other Disciplines.
- Coordinates with co-workers and creates a work environment in which they can perform to their full potential.
- The incumbent also to perform a first level supervisory function, and ensures the cohesiveness of the team.
