POSITION: Warehouse Clerk (Surface)

JOB GRADING: B-Upper

DEPARTMENT: Commercial Services

SITE: South Deep Gold Mine





Minimum Requirements:

  • Be in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Have at least 2 years' administrative or related experience in a similar environment, preferably within the mining industry.
  • Have relevant knowledge and an understanding of the SAP and materials management.
  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Be prepared to uphold good housekeeping standards.
  • Be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Be prepared to do shift work and to work extended hours on an ad hoc basis.
  • Be prepared to attend an INVOCOM meeting before the start of shift.
  • Have access to reliable transport in accordance with the shift work.
  • Have access to a phone and be contactable.
  • Be in possession of a valid Forklift Driver's license (advantageous).
  • Be in possession of a NQF 5 qualification in Materials Management (advantageous).
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and the environment, as determined by the risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health and Safety Centre.






Key Competencies


  • Responsible for providing Issuing of stock against a valid work order and reservation, loading of materials and offloading of applicable site/destinations and advise customers of picking locations and quantities.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receivable of goods and materials.
  • Packaging of stock in correct shelves and bins.
  • Perform inspections on materials and return sub-standard material.
  • Adhere to housekeeping standards.
  • Responsible for proper discipline in section.
  • To provide and maintain a safe environment with minimum risk to health and safety of employees.
  • Completion of a Pre-Work Risk Assessment before any task is started or if the task has changed.
  • Completion of relevant documentation.
  • Monitor and execute orders and reservations.
  • Perform stock transfers and stock taking exercises.
  • Compilation of stock reports.
  • Binning and coding of stock items.
  • Filing and indexing of documentation.
  • Investigating any discrepancies and closing out of findings.
  • Printing and review of orders and reservations.
  • Issuing of stock against a valid work order and reservation.
  • Loading of materials and offloading of applicable site/destination.
  • Advise customers of picking locations and quantities.
  • Maintenance of operating systems post good delivery.
  • Receivable, resolution or escalation of unresolved queries.
  • Escalated non-compliances, abnormal stock queries and unsuccessful deliveries.
  • Provide assistance to customers with part number and stock location.
