Job Details

Myra Falls mine, situated in Strathcona Provincial Park, 90kms southwest of Campbell River on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, has been operational since 1965 and employs 450 employees and contractors.  The mine has a lifespan of over ten years. It is ramping up production to over 800,000 metric tonnes of zinc, lead and copper ore per annum, key commodities in the transition to a lower-carbon economy.

The Myra Falls mining operation was previously owned by leading global zinc and lead producer Nyrstar. Following the company’s financial restructuring in 2019, Trafigura became a majority shareholder, and the mine is now part of the Trafigura Mining Group portfolio. Trafigura Mining Group’s assets extend across Europe, Africa, North America and Latin America, ranging from wholly owned facilities to joint ventures and minority investments.

We are looking to hire the Mobile Maintenance Planner, Reporting to the Maintenance Manager. The Mobile Maintenance Planner will be responsible for the planning and scheduling maintenance of the underground mobile equipment at Myra Falls. This position will work closely with Mobile Supervisors. 

Accountabilities:   

  • The safety of self and others;
  • Development of job plans, preventive maintenance strategies, and small project planning;
  • Accurate short term and long term scheduling;
  • Updated work plans, equipment bill of materials, work orders and preventive maintenance procedures and schedules in SAP;
  • Statutory compliance and proper documentation for equipment associated with the maintenance department.

Responsibilities:

  • Development and continuous improvement of preventive maintenance program for all mobile equipment. 
  • Assure compliance to all applicable statutory codes including reviewing and updating current maintenance plans as well as identifying deficiencies and developing new maintenance strategies.
  • Scheduling available manpower, ordering and tracking parts, and documenting work tasks.  This includes developing and maintaining the maintenance management system in SAP (work order creating and tracking, preventive maintenance strategies, managing the functional location structure, creating and updating equipment usage tracking, etc.) 
  • Coordinate maintenance with other maintenance departments and operations.  This includes tracking schedule compliance, reviewing completed work and prioritizing work to be completed.

Knowledge/Skills:

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Mines Act and applicable health and safety regulations in the Province of BC.
  • Safety Systems – Conducting JHA’s – Safety Card Completion
  • Knowledge of SOP’s related to tasks performed in their section
  • Knowledge of mining equipment and maintenance.
  • People Management
  • Standard business software in use at Myra Falls (MS Office Suite; SAP, RIMS).
  • Safe working practices for site specific tasks at Myra Falls.
  • Company policies and Life Saving Rules.
  • Emergency Management Protocols
  • Heavy duty equipment maintenance

The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Ideal candidate would be an engineer or technician with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.  A mechanic with a minimum of 10 years’ experience working in mining and proficient in maintenance management systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (SAP, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Effective time management and organization skills, including organization and management of electronic information.

Qualifications:

  • minimum of five (5) years’ mobile maintenance experience in mining.  Planning experience in heavy industry is an asset. 
  • SAP and MS Office application (Excel, Word, Project) experience is also and asset. 
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling practices is mandatory.

Physical and Mental Demands and Requirements:

The Mobile Planner will regularly work in the field and an office setting with 70% of the time in an office setting and 30% of the time in a shop/plant setting. The incumbent must be able to:

  • Lift and carry loads up to 20 kg in weight.
  • Operate a vehicle typically requiring a driver’s license (Class 5; car/pickup).
  • Sit for over 60 consecutive minutes.
  • Concentrate for over 60 consecutive minutes.
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity for more than 60 minutes (i.e. watch a video monitor).
  • Frequently use peripheral vision.
  • Be exposed to fire, smoke, fumes, odors or chemicals (U/G blasting fumes, equipment exhaust).
