About the role

We are looking for a Manager Marketing Strategy (Minerals) to lead and support commercial marketing strategy development for the Minerals product suite, including portfolio reviews, end-use, pricing, contractual and other commercial strategy initiatives and growth opportunities and projects. The incumbent will actively collaborate across the Commercial team and with operational leadership to support tactical execution of the commercial marketing strategy. This role is a great opportunity for an experienced commercial practitioner who is motivated by driving commercial results through commercial and marketing excellence.

Based in Singapore and reporting to the General Manager Strategic Marketing, you will be:
  • Support the team in leading commercial strategy initiatives and projects across Minerals, with research and analysis, including coordinating input from knowledge experts across Technical Marketing and Sales, Market Analysis, Operations and Strategy and Planning leads.
  • Support the team in devising and delivering market development and growth initiatives, as we look to maximise the value of our resources and explore customer centric value-add initiatives.
  • Responsible for preparing commercial reporting and guidance, including performance monitoring and reporting against agreed KPI's (leading and lagging ones), and ensuring the Minerals Commercial function remains focused on continuously improving performance.
  • Supporting market intelligence work on competitive approaches to market.
  • Developing and supporting the implementation of common processes and governance around contract mandates, best practice across contractual terms and conditions and processes for deviation from standard terms and conditions, ensuring value is obtained from any variation avoiding potential value leakage.
  • Working on inorganic growth projects in the Minerals group (including battery materials) in support of the Group's strategy objectives as required.
  • Acting as a "thinking partner" for the Minerals Commercial Marketing team.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills the ability to speak and relate with junior analysts and Executive leadership, and write formal strategy documents
  • Proven analytical and project management skills, to lead strategy initiatives from start to finish
  • Experience driving revenue growth via price and margin growth analysis
  • Experience bringing value to customers through non-financial means
  • A confident but humble demeanour, focused on fostering relationships and building influence through credibility and successful delivery against the commercial strategy
  • Ability to effectively navigate ambiguity and change context to develop workable and sustainable solutions
  • Proven abilities to successfully operate in a matrix organisation, with strong stakeholder engagement and business partnering skills being key requisites
  • Leadership competencies in collaboration, listening, ability to receive and provide feedback in a positive manner and embodiment of Rio Tinto's values will be required
  • 10+ years' experience in direct and/or indirect commercial roles; or a combination of operational, technical, and operational roles
  • Bachelor's Degree required.

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • MBA and/or consulting experience an advantage
  • Experience working in industrial minerals, specialty chemicals and/or commodities and key drivers of profitability
