Reporting to the Manager, Finance and Accounting, RACE21™ the Senior Accountant (known at Teck as Senior Accounting Analyst), RACE21™ is responsible for ensuring that Teck’s business transformation program, RACE21™, is appropriately reported and accounted for. The Senior Accounting Analyst will interface with individuals on the RACE21™ value capture team, the rest of the Teck accounting department in Vancouver and with site controllers across our operations to ensure consistency in our reporting and the application of internal controls.

The RACE21™ transformation is accelerating digitization, automation, and advanced analytics, and provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with various cross-functional teams. This position is an exciting opportunity to become part of an innovative team and contribute to the success of RACE21™, our fast-paced digital transformation program.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Prepare the full-cycle monthly accounting for RACE21™, including development of process and controls, in line with those used across the rest of the accounting function
  • Prepare internal financial reports for RACE21™
  • Ensure compliance with legal entity reporting requirements
  • Prepare and reconcile Race21 month end, quarter end and year reports, following IFRS
  • Determine the appropriate allocation of costs between operations, aligned with cost allocation frameworks
  • Review and code invoices and credit card charges for all RACE21™expenditures
  • Ensure compliance with appropriation requisitions policy for expenditures
  • Assess appropriate accounting treatment of expenditures and liaise with the technical accounting department to ensure compliance with existing policies and procedures
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts for certain expenditures
  • Assist with the completion of appropriation requisitions for expenditures
  • Prepare project reporting
  • Ensure consistent application of internal controls to accounting processes and reporting
  • Work with the accounting department to ensure that all processes and frameworks are aligned with existing accounting policies, practices, and reporting and that internal controls are applied appropriately
  • Create and maintain cross-departmental relationships
  • Assist in the preparation of SR&ED credit claim.
  • Assist with internal & external audit.
  • Other projects as assigned
  • Assume day-to-day responsibility for numerous, and often changing, projects and tasks


Qualifications :
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or other relevant discipline
  • CPA designation or working towards one
  • Minimum seven years of post-designation experience or 3 years of public practice accounting firm
  • Cost accounting or and project accounting experience
  • Familiarity with IFRS (intangible assets, impairment)
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Experience with financial accounting systems
  • Strong analytical capabilities and problem-solving ability
