Mine Production Engineer for the Oyu Tolgoi Underground
  • Join dynamic group, committed to your growth and development
  • Family Friendly 5:2 roster Brisbane
  • Come join us at Rio Tinto where our people come first

For nearly 150 years, we have been producing materials essential to human progress minerals and metals that are still part of everyday life, including the copper that supports everyday life and sustainable opportunities.

Within the family of Rio Tinto operations is Oyu Tolgoi. Oyu Tolgoi LLC (OT) operates the Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine, which will be one of the world's largest underground block cave mines. OT is located in the South Gobi region of Mongolia.

OT is a partnership between the Government of Mongolia (34%), Turquoise Hill Resources (66%) and Rio Tinto (approximately 50.8% of Turquoise Hill). Rio Tinto was appointed management controller of OT in December 2010 to deliver this strategically important asset for Mongolia. OT will contribute to Mongolia's social and economic development.

At Rio Tinto your voice matters. We are building a new generation mine with a family of talented people at its heart.

About the role

All progress begins with pioneers. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.

The role will be complemented with the highest commitment to safety and ethics, in support of Rio Tinto and OT values and strategic objectives.

Reporting to the Senior Production Engineer, you will:

  • Promote and adhere to the Rio Tinto safety system and risk management
  • Participate in rolling annual planning and reporting cycles
  • Establish strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders
  • Optimisation projects to support schedule improvements as required
  • Develop written procedures and documentation for scope and activities
  • Potential for international travel to site when travel restrictions are eased (i.e. potential frequency is once per quarter for approximately 2 weeks per trip)

What you'll bring
  • Strong Production and Planning knowledge
  • Mine Design
  • Analytics knowledge
  • Critical Thinking
  • Exposure to and experience with Vulcan and/or PCBC, and Deswik software with an ability to upskill quickly

  • Concise and deliberate written and verbal communication skills on technical matters
  • Initiate, develop and maintain effective and sustainable relationships with working groups
  • Work closely with the stakeholder teams to ensure that potential issues are identified early, and effective solutions are implemented to resolve them
  • Excellent time management capacity
  • The motivation and ability to be self-driven but also collaborative
  • AusIMM Member, Competent Person (CP), or CP in Training will be highly regarded
