About the role

We are looking for an innovative Manager, Business Improvement & Transformation to lead a team of advisors and navigate the operations through continuous improvement and transformation initiatives as the asset progressively transitions into closure.

Working with key business stakeholders this position drives business improvement and transformation projects and processes, coaches and develops a dynamic team, and supports a wide-range of operational leaders in implementing and embedding business improvement practices and initiatives to realize the mine's full potential.

Reporting directly to the Diavik President & Chief Operating Officer and based at the Diavik Mine Site, you will work a four (4) days on / three (3) days off rotation; however, you will temporarily work a 10 day on / 11 day off or 11 day on / 10 day off rotation until the Covid pandemic normalizes.

Working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:
  • Leading by example in health and safety, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of yourself and your team members
  • Facilitating the identification, selection, and definition of business improvement projects
  • Applying discipline, governance and quality assurance across business improvement projects
  • Implementing measures to assess performance and sustainability of improvement benefits
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with leaders and other key stakeholders and providing coaching on the development of high-performance teams and operations
  • Providing technical support and direction to project stakeholders on business improvement processes and techniques
  • Facilitating strategic business improvement workshops with leaders
  • Managing and developing the performance of the team in line with Rio Tinto's company values, in order to achieve objectives

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and/or Business Administration
  • Minimum 10 years working experience in a mining or heavy industrial setting
  • Experience in Program Management and change management
  • Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, or other business improvement methodologies
  • Proven ability to coach and develop teams
  • Ability to engage and build buy-in to adopting a continuous improvement mindset
  • Experience effectively engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior executives
  • Analytical, strategic and forward-thinking competencies
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are key, including the ability to translate technical data and information for different audiences
  • Proficiency with MS Office, in particular the ability to develop and manage spreadsheets, and develop graphs that highlight key messaging, is essential, as is the ability to learn new software

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets. Where you will be working

Located in the Northwest Territories of Canada, the Diavik Diamond Mine is a producer of gem-quality diamonds. At Diavik, a strong focus is placed on protecting the local environment, as well as supporting communities through employment and education. This role is a site-based role with a fly in/fly out roster. The individual will be required to reside in Yellowknife, NT and fly to and from site with the management team.
