Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Metallurgical Superintendent to lead our Metallurgy team at our world-class Pogo Mine Operation in Delta Junction, Alaska. This opportunity is offered on an 8 days on, 6 days off rotating roster at our remote camp outside of Delta Junction, Alaska. The point of hire is Fairbanks, Alaska and relocation is available for the right candidate.

What's the role?

The Metallurgical Superintendent reports to the Processing Manager, and the primary role is to provide leadership and guidance to the Metallurgical Team within the Processing Department

Duties include:

  • Build and mentor the metallurgical team as required, emphasising safety, high technical standards and continuous improvement.
  • Develop a culture of high performance and behaviours that are consistent with agreed values ensuring performance objectives and measures are developed and assessed.
  • Develop a succession plan for roles within the team.
  • Ensure that all safety impacts from a metallurgical point of view are addressed.
  • Communicate the business objectives with the operations team to ensure all activities are focused on agreed outcomes.
  • Taking lead to develop the Processing Department Budget.

What are we looking for?

You'll be a highly self motivated individual who will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

The specifics:

  • Degree majoring in Metallurgical Engineering/Extractive Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience in the gold and hydrometallurgical mining industry
  • Hand-on metallurgical test work experience
  • Minimum 3-4 years experience in a supervisory role
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office, special emphasis placed on Excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
  • Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.

The Details:

Working an 8 days on, 6 days off schedule of days, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
