Wood is seeking a Senior Laboratory Team Lead to join our Central Canada Materials Testing group based out of our Burlington, Ontario office. Join our team of specialists who provide materials testing and quality assurance as an integral component to design, and ensure projects are built with the safest and most sustainable materials. We provide materials testing and quality assurance services on some of the biggest projects in Canada.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with management and supervision of Wood's CCIL certified Burlington materials testing laboratory
  • Assist with administration of annual MTO and CCIL correlation and proficiency testing programs
  • Implementation of laboratory Health & Safety program
  • Arranging for equipment maintenance and calibrations as required
  • Training and mentoring laboratory staff, and tracking of training records
  • Preparation and distribution of laboratory testing reports, and liaison with Wood's geotechnical staff, clients and stakeholders
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the asphalt/concrete/aggregate laboratory
  • Lead and develop a team of Materials Technical staff performing field and laboratory tests
  • Scheduling and coordinating the activities of material technical staff, assessing resources and allocating work to meet priorities and workload
  • Responsible for lab safety, lab CCIL certification, MTO correlation programs, preparing for lab audits, maintaining quality control and ensuring timely execution of lab and field tests
  • Perform lab and field tests as required
  • Review lab and field test results and reports to ensure standards of quality and accuracy are met
  • Manage and deliver high quality projects safely, on-time, within budget and to the satisfaction of the client


Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma in Civil Technology (with commensurate work experience) or related discipline
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario or with OACETT
  • Minimum of five years in experience in construction QA/QC testing and inspection
  • Minimum of three years' experience supervising a CCIL Category 1 or 2 concrete laboratory and Type D aggregate laboratory
  • Minimum of three years' experience supervising a CCIL Asphalt Laboratory (Type A, D & E)
  • Experience with Ontario Ministry of Transportation laboratory testing protocols.
  • Experience in Concrete and Asphalt Mix Design reviews will be an asset
  • Experience directing and managing staff
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task with the ability to make quick decisions requiring sound judgment and experience
  • Must have sound knowledge of laboratory tests, field testing and inspection
  • Customer focused orientation
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must pass physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to lift maximum 50 pounds
  • Able to periodically work overtime to accommodate workload.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel
  • Familiar with Quality Management Systems
  • Strong written, verbal communication and people management skills
  • Experience in writing technical reports, business development and client relations
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving experience
  • Willing to work overtime, if required
