Artemis, by way of its wholly-owned subsidiary BW Gold Ltd., recently acquired the Blackwater Gold Project in central British Columbia approximately 160 km southwest of Prince George and 446 km northeast of Vancouver. 

This is an excellent opportunity for you to join an entrepreneurial organization with financial capacity and depth of experience that is focused on technical excellence without the bureaucracy of larger firms.  You will make a significant impact, working with the project team to guide excellence in Indigenous relations for the Blackwater Project. Blackwater is an advanced-stage mine development project which received its environmental assessment approvals in 2019 and is proceeding towards permitting, with the goal of commencing construction in 2022.

Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous and Community Relations, this full-time and permanent position will be responsible for coordinating Indigenous relations aspects of the Project, and for implementing processes, programs and communications that result in positive and sustainable effects of the project on local Indigenous nations and nearby communities. A strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship is essential for success in this role. The role will be based in the project region.

Scope of Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility will be to work with local Indigenous communities to identify opportunities to empower their communities through the development of independence and sustainability. You will primarily focus on the development and implementation of business development contracts, employment, education/training, scholarships, and community development.

You will also be required to:

  • Maintain mutually beneficial relations with local Indigenous nations and communities more generally;
  • Coordinate communications initiatives with Indigenous nations and local communities;
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings between Indigenous nations, local communities and BW Gold management;
  • Identify & assess the needs and capabilities of the Indigenous communities and how BW Gold can support them to build a mutually beneficial relationships;
  • Work with the project team to develop an Indigenous recruitment and training strategy;
  • Promote collaborative partnerships to enhance Indigenous with personal development and job readiness skills;
  • Develop effective processes to communicate & respond to contract opportunities;
  • Foster Indigenous entrepreneurs and identify possible business development resources;
  • Research funding sources to further education/training opportunities;
  • Mentor and coach current and potential Indigenous employees;
  • Promote Indigenous cultural awareness within BW Gold;
  • Coordinate information sessions in Indigenous communities;
  • Coordinate closely with consultants concerning the stakeholder engagement and consultation program;
  • Ensure the Project management team is aware of issues that may affect project activity;
  • Participate in Corporate Social Responsibility activities related to Indigenous nations;
  • Work closely with the Manager, Indigenous and Community Relations to develop approaches to the inclusion of Indigenous input to the Permitting process;
  • Collaborate with the technical team to ensure that Indigenous Traditional Knowledge is considered during the site development and design processes; and
  • Liaise with the project team and legal counsel to ensure that proper Indigenous and community consultation is being completed and documented.

Qualifications

To apply for this role you must have ability to work within both industry standards and the Indigenous culture. In addition to this, you will also have experience working with Indigenous communities, council, administration, education/training institutions and stakeholders.

BW Gold is seeking a strong team player with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks and handle high stress incidents. To be successful in this role you will need highly developed communication and strong relationship building skills.

The ideal candidate will have a 4-year Bachelor's degree in a related field and experience overseeing similar types of agreements. Candidates with an equivalent combination of formal education and experience are encouraged to apply. A valid driver’s license is required.
