We are looking for an Infrastructure Demolition Specialist to join the Diavik Closure Team and advance decommissioning and demolition aspects of the closure study.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor Closure Readiness and working in a diverse group within the Closure Department, you will be working 12 hours per day shift on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotational schedule in the interim with the potential that this changes to a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation in the future, once the COVID-19 pandemic normalizes. You will be responsible for:
  • Managing specialized contractors and consultants to advance infrastructure demolition designs to FS level execution plans.
  • Developing demolition procurement and tendering strategy and review of the RFP/RFQ applications.
  • Leading the assessment and review of options for site decommissioning plan and scheduling (with inputs from area owner teams) including optimized sequencing/schedule that maintains required operational, projects, closure and post-closure infrastructure during each stage of mine life.
  • Facilitating constructability reviews and HSEC InDesign workshops.
  • Develop contingency rapid decommissioning and care and maintenance plans in the event of earlier than planned closure. Optimize plans to operate site through care and maintenance periods and during post-closure maintenance periods.
  • Liaise between the Study team and site Departments to integrate closure execution plans (including progressive closure) within Operational Life of Mine planning and create mine area and building specific closure schedules.
  • Develop and implement a balanced strategy for reducing site materials through annual winter road backhauls, salvage, sale or landfilling.
  • Coordinate knowledge and information management planning from Operations into Legacy/Long-term retention.
  • Critically review all information necessary to support FS level cost estimates direct and indirect.

What you'll bring
  • At least 10 years of experience in the construction, operation and maintenance or demolition of infrastructure at industrial or mining operations.
  • Demolition experience is an asset;
  • Technical understanding of infrastructure function, optimization and maintenance and re-routing of utilities
  • Remote mine site experience is an asset;
  • Methodical and proficient at technical writing / documenting detailed and complex plans;
  • Team player who can draw upon and distill the skills and knowledge of many individuals across site and external SMEs;
  • Demonstrated excellent communications and inter-personal skills

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
