Summary

Barr is seeking an engineering technician to join its Ann Arbor, Michigan, team. The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams, providing computer-aided drafting expertise on Microstation. Typical duties consist of working with engineers to create, update, and revise drawings of mechanical and electrical systems. Additional responsibilities may include construction observation, surveying, and monitoring. The work may involve out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two-year technical certificate or experience/coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • 0-5 years of experience with design/CAD experience related to industrial facilities
  • Proficiency with MicroStation
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the consulting industry
  • Familiarity with additional drafting packages such as AutoCAD and Navisworks
  • Familiarity with work in an industrial environment and basic knowledge of various industrial disciplines and industrial construction


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
