Sales Operations and Planning Digital Lead, Commercial Group

· Opportunity to work in a world-class organization and play a leading role in delivering a step-change in commercial performance across the value chain through digitalisation and innovation

· Exposure to global commercial operations, processes, stakeholders, and leading-edge digital/tech across all of our commodities and product groups

· Work in a collaborative and fast-paced global environment, based in Singapore.

About the role

Commerical Digital is at the forefront of maximising value of Rio Tinto's commercial business differentiating Rio Tinto product in the market and transforming the mining industry through future docued and customer oriented innovations.

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) is one of the key focus for Rio Tinto to transition from the traditional volume-centric decision-making mindset to a more agile commercial mindset with a greater focus on value creation. An effective S&OP improves the interfaces between operations and commercial to drive better decision-making.

A coordinated and centralised approach on S&OP started in 2018 where Rio Tinto started an S&OP Transformation Program across several business units namely Aluminium, Copper, Borates, and Iron Ore. The key focus is on building maturity at the S&OP business processes and organization levels, understand the existing capabilities, provide recommended practices and drive value creation across S&OP.

On the system side, we are approaching our S&OP journey in a centralised and modular fashion by deploying the most valuable/relevant modules of our S&OP tool relevant to each business unit and delivering value iteratively. At the moment S&OP solutions have been deployed using two platforms: Anaplan as a system of record to eliminate as possible manual inputs and to facilitate the exchange of information across functions and Palantir as a data integrator to run big data analysis. We have several ongoing projects to deploy various modules across various business units in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific (Demand Planning, Logistics Planning, Inventory Management, etc.).

The incumbent will lead and drive these S&OP Digital initiatives, working in collaboration with business sponsors, business S&OP Managers, other key business stakeholders in the value chain, IS&T (Information Systems & Technology), and other implementation vendors in these projects. He/she will also work with top management, key stakeholders and IS&T, to define and work on the mid to longer-term vision and roadmap. You will report directly to the GM Commercial Services & Digital.

This S&OP Digital Lead role is a great opportunity for the successful candidate to have direct influence and leadership in strategically transforming the way we do business across the Commercial Group.

You will be responsible for the following:

Strategy & Planning

· Lead the scoping, planning, and delivery of Digital initiatives for S&OP, work closely with BU S&OP Managers and other key stakeholders.

· Perform annual Planning process (PRC1, PRC2, ad-hoc forecasts, etc.) to define the budget for following quarters/years and longer term 5 years vision/strategy/roadmap.

· Work with the respective S&OP Managers and key stakeholders in establishing Business Cases with business stakeholders and presents them to the Governance Board meetings to get financial and scheduling approvals

Project Delivery

· Establish and lead the S&OP digital initiatives across Commercial

· Be accountable for overall project/program delivery following approved scope, timeline, and budget. Partner closely with IS&T, the Business Project Manager, Digital Team, and 3rd-Party counterparts to deliver an S&OP Business Solution for all the Business Units.

· Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to converge and align on recommendations and prioritization of Digital projects. Prioritize backlog and facilitate cross BU prioritization decisions.
