You will be reporting to the Mine Engineering Supervisor.

Purpose

Provide technical support to Porcupine for various aspects of mine engineering as part of the Technical Services, with a gradual increase in responsibility as competency is demonstrated. Provide an opportunity to learn the mining process in an operational environment. Provide Engineering Interns with exposure to a wide range of technical roles in order to give a solid base to build their careers on within Newmont.

Essential Duties

Promoting Safety and Sustainability
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and implementing new designs.
  • Develop plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Promote and adhere to Company safety policies.


Exposure to Operations
  • Understand the operation and limitations of (and provide technical support to) through exposure to:
  • Drilling operations,
  • Loading operations,
  • Mucking, haulage and dumping operations,
  • Overall supply of materials for the operation,
  • Construction activities associated to the mining process,
  • Implementation of technology to assist mining operation.


Technical Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support in the following engineering duties in varying capacities, aligning with the needs of PGM:
  • Surveying duties
  • Ventilation duties (for underground)
  • Drill and blast design duties
  • Planning duties (short-term, mid-term or long range)
  • Scheduling duties
  • Capital budget planning
  • Infrastructure planning and design duties
  • Project management
  • Geotechnical duties
  • Backfill duties
  • Waste rock management
  • Project management
  • Mine economics studies and financial management
  • Possible supervision of processes or personnel, when competency demonstrated.
  • Peer to peer work reviews


The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Training & Experience

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent mining-related engineering degree.
  • Registered as an EIT with Professional Engineers Ontario is preferred or must be eligible for EIT status within Professional Engineers Ontario
  • Be technically competent and have a good understanding of mining.
  • Familiarity with Deswik would be considered an asset (not required)


Working Conditions

  • This position is located at Hoyle Pond, part of Newmont's Porcupine mine site near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 5x2 schedule. As such, if you do not live near the site, we will require relocation.
