Position Description:

Ensure all programs, personal actions and approaches support Barrick's goals for safety and sustainability. Act as a safety champion and constantly apply the principals and spirit of Courageous Safety Leadership and Courage to Care.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the planning cycle for LOM, budget, and forecasts. Challenging and validating inputs and working with department heads to develop quality plans. Provide technical guidance to the operational staff when required.
  • Lead Internal and External Audit engagements, ensuring controls are in place to safeguard the company's assets.
  • Lead the accounting function with agility, including the month end/financial close, reporting and reconciliations in accordance with IFRS and in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, internal controls, SAP support and process improvements.
  • Leverage system capabilities to deliver timely, value added analyses, key metrics, and reports to support departmental cost reviews.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Understand key business and financial information and communicate key results to the leadership team.
  • Review and provide advice with capital expenditure requests and assist where needed to support the financial analyses included in the submissions.
  • Interpret and apply key financial indicators to make better business decisions, using data to improve performance.
  • Recognize and communicate potential issues to his/her team leader, as appropriate.
  • Work with operations to drive understanding of cost drivers and collaborate on cost improvements.
  • Preparation of Quarterly financial package for distribution to owners.
  • Preparation of Annual Tax Package for submission to owners.
  • Adapt quickly to change and technological advancements.
  • Manage accounting staff including goal setting, professional development, and performance appraisals.
  • Perform other duties or special assignments as required.


Qualifications:

  • CPA Designation or MBA with strong financial acumen
  • Bachelors Degree with 5-7 years of prior related Accounting experience
  • Ability to stay organized, efficient, analytical and to pay close attention to detail
  • Proficient with financial modelling and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work with all levels in the organization and manage people effectively
  • Ability to be self-motivated, flexible and able to organize and respond to multiple demands and priorities
  • Prior experience with SAP and Hyperion preferred
  • Exposure to the mining industry in a mining accounting function preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Problem solving and time management skills
