Reporting to the Superintendent, Environment, the Senior Water Resource Engineer, Water Management (known at Teck as Lead, Water Management)is responsible for leading the development of the Water Management Plan and Water Balances while ensuring alignment with Operations, Regional Water Quality Modelling, and Teck Water Governance Framework. In addition, this role will be responsible for driving activities related to surface water, groundwater hydrology, and operational water management.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop Water Management Plans that are consistent with business, regulatory, regional water quality modelling, and Teck water governance requirements
  • Lead engagement and maintain relationships with government agencies, Indigenous groups, and other local communities of interest
  • Develop a site based, proactive process, for water management as part of mine planning to deliver efficiencies in mine development, operations, and regulatory authorizations
  • Proactively manage risks from project findings and risks associated with regional water quality modelling and site operations
  • Provide senior level technical editing of permitting applications and regulatory submissions
  • Ensure regulatory commitments relating to Water Management Plans and Water Management Facilities are met
  • Prepare and submit all necessary data and reports to meet regulatory and other commitments, including presentation of technical information to a variety of audiences
  • Ensure project management standard methodologies are applied to new projects
  • Find opportunities for water efficiency through integrating water costs into project development and operations
  • Identify operational water supply needs, supply risk, and develop feasible mitigation based on defined permitted mine life water needs
  • Collaborate with partners, and advise senior management, to support responsible decision making water management decisions


Qualifications :
  • Engineering or Science Degree in environment, hydrology, hydrogeology, or other related field
  • Relevant professional accreditation
  • Minimum seven years demonstrated ability working in an industrial environment, preferably in mining
  • Minimum two years’ experience supervising or leading a team
  • Experience in project management and delivery
  • Experience leading development and implementation of holistic water management programs, and risk evaluation of water quality/quantity and aquatic life
  • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial mining water practices and regulatory compliance
