About the role

As the Engineering Manager for the Jadar Project, you are the Rio Tinto (RT) Owner's Representative for managing the detailed engineering scope for the ~$2b USD Jadar Lithium Project in Serbia. The project scope includes a 2Mtpa underground mine, refinery and associated non-processing infrastructure. The role is responsible for managing a team of discipline engineering leads within the Owner's Team along with the PMC's engineering team along with the respective Engineering Service Provides delivering engineering for the project.

This role works with its peers, Area Manager Infrastructure, Area Manager Underground Mine, Are Manager Refinery, Permitting Manager, Controls Manager, Contracts Manager, HSE Manager.

Reporting to the GM Engineering with a dotted line reporting structure to the Jadar Project Director, you will lead, plan and co-ordinate the detailed engineering stage of a project in conjunction with their Project Management Contractor (PMC) counterparts. Key accountabilities include;
  • Develops with the PMC the execution plans and strategy for detailed engineering based on the scope requirements and schedule.
  • Applies disciplined governance and quality assurance across all aspects of the engineering function for the Jadar project.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement.
  • Manages and develops the performance of the team in line with Rio Tinto's company values, in order to achieve objectives, including Zero Harm.
  • Monitors and manages the performance of key Engineering Service Providers (ESPs) to ensure engineering is being prioritized and delivered to meet the agreed construction schedule
  • Monitors, manages and reports all relevant project performance indicators related to the engineering effort to meet business requirements.
  • Identifies and mitigates key project risks and maximize opportunities for the project.
  • Proactively manages the project compliance related activities.
  • Analyses and reports budget and cost variations to contribute to strategic decisions.
  • Works closely with the procurement, construction, commissioning, operational readiness and operations stakeholders to ensure a smooth handover and ramp up at the conclusion of construction.

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • University graduate in Chemical, Metallurgical or related discipline.
  • Experience in engineering management for complex chemical plants, refineries, oil refineries, lithium refineries and Alumina refineries.
  • Solid experience in engineering management.
  • Experience in managing detailed engineering for a large scale, complex chemical processing plant or refinery.
  • Experience in managing detailed engineering for the Development of the refinery.
  • Lithium processing and/or underground mining experience would be highly desirable but not a prerequisite.
