We are currently seeking applications for the role of: Senior Process Control Engineer to maintain and develop real-time optimization solutions through regulatory and advanced process control for the concentrator.

Reporting to the Chief Process Control Engineer, the Senior Process Control Engineer will be assisting Mill Operations and Maintenance to safely and cost-effectively meet the concentrate grade, recovery and throughput targets for copper and moly in the concentrator through the implementation of a sustainable culture of Process Control. In this role, the Senior Process Control Engineer is accountable for maintaining, designing and implementing regulatory and advanced applications, as well as providing data analysis, controller monitoring, process modelling and conducting benefit analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a Courageous Safety Leader by adhering to safety and environmental rules and procedures, leading Safety Investigations, participating in Visible Felt Leadership and Safety Tours;
  • Work with the Mill Operations, Maintenance and other support groups to provide technical support for the design and implementation of control strategies and real-time optimization for the selected operational circuits at Teck Highland Valley Copper Partnership (HVC);
  • Work with other technical personnel within Teck to support the expansion of Process Control within the organization;
  • Provide effective support and process engineering services to the Mill Operations group by analyzing processes and equipment, recommending improved methods, optimization opportunities and reviewing key targets and actions;
  • Develop, implement and maintain online process monitoring applications.
  • Conduct daily monitoring and troubleshooting of existing regulatory and advanced control strategies;
  • Configure hardware/software infrastructure for regulatory and advanced applications development and implementation;
  • Identification, planning and execution of technical development projects;
  • Draft and issue authoritative technical reports on process development projects;
  • Draft capital Appropriation Requests (ARs) and Project Charters for projects predicted to advance targets for metal recovery, concentrate grade quality, reduced risk of injury/hazard or reduced cost of production;
  • Manage the work and safety compliance of outside suppliers and consulting personnel for the duration of specific projects while they are on the HVC site.


Qualifications:

  • Electrical, Metallurgical or Chemical engineer degree with MSc. in process control;
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, designing and implementing real-time optimization strategies in mineral processing (e.g. Crushing, Grinding, Flotation, Dewatering);
  • Experience with instrumentation, PLC/DCS, HMI, historian, communications (e.g. OPC);
  • Experience reviewing and developing PFDs, P&IDs and HAZOPs;
  • Experience in process identification, modelling and simulation (e.g. Matlab);
  • Experience in data science techniques to find data patterns, anomalies and optimization opportunities;
  • Experience in proven basic control (actuators, sensors, regulatory control, loop tuning, etc.);
  • Experience in advanced process control (e.g. advanced regulatory control, fuzzy, MPC, Expert, etc.);
  • Knowledge of data exploration, preparation and machine learning modelling;
  • Testing and commissioning work experience;
  • Ability to document work, interpret, translate and communicate analytical findings using effective relevant visualizations;
  • Self-motivated teammate with the ability to mentor and coach co-workers;
  • Must be eligible for Professional Engineer membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (BC 7N or equivalent).
