Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking for Contracts Engineers and Contracts Administrators at various levels to support the Kemerton Lithium project based in our Perth Office. These roles are responsible for managing and administering the commercial and contractual aspects of our Works Contracts and/or EPCM subcontracts (including inter-company orders). These roles shall report to our Contract Managers.

The Albemarle Kemerton Plant is a greenfield world scale Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate production plant to be located at the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area approximately 160 km south of Perth, Western Australia, and 17 km north-east of the existing port town of Bunbury.

Wood has been appointed as the EPCM by Albemarle to deliver Trains 1 & 2 of the Albemarle Kemerton Plant. Each train is targeted to produce 20,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate. The site is designed for up to five (5) trains will take the ultimate site production to 100,000 tpa.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Administer the project supply chain function in the establishment and ongoing management of subcontracts, including:
    • Management of the procurement phase including request for quotation, bid evaluation, compilation of contracts, contract execution, issue of purchase orders
    • Manage contract claims, review of variations, dispute management and resolution
    • Management of issues relating to insurance, bonds, guarantees
  • Provide support to the line manager in administering all legal and contractual matters in relation to the head-contract and/or subcontracts, including:
    • Support in negotiation of contract terms (and amendments)
    • Administer the contract, including the remuneration and risk-reward schemes
    • Engage and manage the liaison with internal and external legal counsel, tax advisors, insurance advisors as necessary
  • Provide support to the line manager in administering all commercial aspects of the head-contract and/or subcontracts, including:
    • Contractual correspondence and associated registers, tracking, progress claims
    • Change management including contract notices, variations
    • Cost control, financial reporting and forecasting (working cross functionally with the project controls and construction teams)
    • Manage KPI regime
    • Administer delegation of authority for all commercial activities
    • Ongoing administration and refinement of the contract administration systems, registers, procedures
  • Administer commercial risk and opportunities for the head-contract and/or subcontracts, including:
    • Manage risk management programme
    • Maintain risk registers and generate risk reports
  • Administer insurance programme for the head-contract and/or subcontracts, including liaison with insurance advisors, insurance procurement (as necessary)
  • Administer tax matters with internal tax advisors in relation to the head-contract and/or subcontracts (as necessary).
  • Periodic status reporting of contractual matters
  • Administer key Wood commercial and corporate policies (such as code of business conduct, supply chain policies, commercial policies)
  • Any other commercial tasks as directed by the line manager or functional manager


Skills / Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role, in EPCM or EPC related projects in the resources or constructions industry
  • Contracts Engineers should hold tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Law
  • Contracts Engineers should have at least 10 years of commercial/contracts experience in industrial construction projects (mining or oil & gas) for an engineering or construction company
  • Commercial and contractual awareness with EPCM or EPC contract delivery models
  • Experience in change management, including time and cost impact analysis
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills to initiate and develop relationships with a broad range of people, internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision t
  • Understanding of project accounting reporting requirements
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (in particular Excel) and an understanding of SAP, Oracle or similar system.
