Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to build our capability in country and work closely with our client in Uzbekistan. This position has responsibility for executing technical consulting studies and mining projects through the project development life cycle working closely with Wood offices around the world on several simultaneous projects. This position requires strong technical, managerial and business leadership skills. The candidate shall be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment providing engineering expertise in Iron Ore, and/or base metals operations and engineering organisations with roles of increasing responsibility in the mining and consulting industry. A key component of the role is assisting the client to investigate and implement the best for project execution strategy. Responsibilities:
  • Working very closely with the client team to develop the optimal fast track project execution plan
  • Working closely with Wood offices globally to develop and deliver the necessary studies and projects
  • Training the client team regarding project mining study and project execution
  • Manage and execute the delivery of best practice process plant designs and associated services in designated studies, projects and consulting services
  • Ensure the team maintains a leading-edge technical capability through the development of designs, industry contacts, new technologies and innovative practices
  • Develop innovative mechanical engineering solutions to complex technical problems for a wide range of commodities
  • Provide technical guidance and advice to other functional departments and the wider organisation as required
  • Ensure designs meet required safety standards and actively participate in HAZOP studies and design reviews
  • Proactively assist in identifying business opportunities and develop new and existing client relationships


Skills / Qualifications

  • Qualified in mechanical engineering from a recognised institution
  • Extensive experience in the Mining and Minerals industry within a projects and engineering environment
  • In-depth technical knowledge of process plant and autoclave design and operation
  • Extensive experience with metallurgical test work and pilot plant campaigns for pressure hydrometallurgical projects
  • Ability to manage risk during the design process consistent with technical and commercial requirements
  • Excellent analytical, literacy and numerical skills
  • Experience in pressure vessel design and knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, for varying durations and at times to remote locations
