FEMA/Water Resources Planner or Scientist

How will you contribute to the team?

Major Function/Role:

Applies knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program, Risk MAP, and Community Rating System (CRS) by providing communications and technical support to clients and community stakeholders for FEMA Regional offices and state/community clients. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of floodplain management, hazard mitigation, and risk communication principles.

Job Duties:

Supporting the training and outreach lead, duties include NFIP-related technical assistance; ordinance review; technical writing, document editing and publication; SharePoint site administration; database maintenance; and training coordination, facilitation, development, and delivery.

What will you contribute?

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning or related field, or 10 years of related work experience. Ideal candidates must have at least 5 years of experience with a combination of floodplain development/permit review, ordinance enforcement, hazard mitigation plan development, and public information or outreach related activities. Completion of FEMA’s EMI E273 course (or equivalent). Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is preferred.

Specialized Skills:
  • Thorough understanding of the National Flood Insurance Program, Risk MAP, and CRS.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills; must be detailed oriented.
  • Prior experience developing training/outreach materials, written publications, and presentations.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, and Access.
  • Proficiency with online communication and meeting tools (MS Teams, Skype, WebEx, Zoom, and Adobe Connect).
  • Audio and video editing experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and MS Project is preferred.

Professional Registrations:

Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)

Additional Requirements:

FEMA PTS or CTP program knowledge a plus
