General Foreman - Mobile Maintenance

Location: East Boulder Mine - Big Timber, MT

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Proactively lead the mechanical maintenance crews in alignment with SMC'S leadership principles (guide, educate, and train) with particular focus on all Maintenance and Reliability initiatives. Lead and participate in safety meetings, safety inspections, ensure that equipment used is in safe working condition, and monitor compliance with established company safety policies. Assist in employee and supervisor development and skills training. Collaborate with all departments to ensure effective communications. Assist in the interview process and make recommendations for hiring. Maintain costs within budget.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure that employees have all the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills to perform their jobs safely and efficiently.
  • Interface with the Operations department on equipment requirements and activities.
  • Hold people accountable in a consistent manner, document performance as required, resolve non-conformance issues, and address employee issues with appropriate resources.
  • Understand and work within the annual budget, assist in developing and execute the maintenance plan.
  • Set and maintain standards and expectations, conduct documented performance management with supervisors.
  • Coordinate and conduct regular workplace audits, Job Safety Observations, and Planned General Inspections
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and certifying authority requirements.
  • Communicate maintenance plan and safety goals with the supervisors and crews.
  • Create an environment that promotes teamwork and innovation, and actively seek feedback from the workforce and supervisors for continuous improvements.
  • Manage manpower requirements, interview, and select employees as budgeted.
  • Provide input and feedback on Business and Quality Improvement initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of applicable MSHA rules and regulations
  • Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Specialized training on mechanical systems and 5 to 7 years related experience or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, hydraulics, or related field
  • Understanding of Maintenance and Reliability processes including PM's, PdM's, RCA, and asset health management.
  • Experience with maintenance planning and scheduling functions
  • Experience using JD Edwards or equivalent maintenance programs.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years Supervisory experience
  • 5-7 years underground maintenance experience
  • Ability to use related O.E.M. manuals
  • Computer skills plus the ability to learn and utilize Company authorized software
