POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for providing HSE support for all site project operations. As this is a start-up position, the successful candidate will play a key role in the execution and implementation of a diverse range of health and safety programs for the Magino Project Operation.

MAGINO MINE
The Magino Project is a brown-fields site located in northern Ontario, Canada that contains an historical underground gold mine, landfill and tailings management facility ("TMF"). The Corporation conducted a Feasibility Study during 2017 that examined mining the deposit using conventional open pit mining methods and extraction of gold from the ore using a 10,000 tonnes per day carbon-in-pulp ("CIP") mineral processing facility. When developed, Magino will produce around 150,000 ounces of gold per year during the first five years of production. The project has over a 15-year mine production life (including one year of pre-production).

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in the development and implementation of health and safety strategies, training programs, and procedures.
  • Promote a reputable health & safety culture by coaching employees on the importance of having safe attitudes and pro-active behaviors.
  • Deliver various training programs and conduct site specific orientation.
  • Assist and support supervisors in all site activities related to occupational health & safety.
  • Identify requirements and coordinate site and job specific training.
  • Perform inspections/workplace audits, investigate incidents, and ensure corrective actions are tracked to completion.
  • Interpret health and safety legislation and client site safety requirements to make recommendations that ensure compliance and due diligence on the part of all on-site personnel.
  • Maintain site statistics and records (training, incidents, inspections, etc.).
  • Assist in the planning and start-up of new site projects and/or work scopes.
  • Support supervisors and personnel in the development of JHAs ensuring they have identified all hazards and have implemented the appropriate controls to conduct work in a safe manner. Ensure the site specific JHA approval process is followed.
  • Regularly monitor the safety compliance of workers and supervisors through Job Task Observations.
  • Support supervision in conducting safety meetings, toolbox talks, and health and safety informational awareness sessions.
  • Attend daily Client site HSE Meetings and relay information to supervisors and crews.
  • Identify PPE requirements for personnel - order and maintain site PPE inventory.
  • Assist and support the OHS Committee.
  • Assist in site administrative duties and ensure site-specific obligations and completed as required.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is required.
  • 4+ years practical experience in the Mining / heavy industry Safety field
  • Working knowledge and experience with health & safety legislation, rules, regulations and reporting processes and procedures
  • Experience with Mines Rescue highly desirable
  • The ability to effectively communicate and present information to the hourly workforce, while also effectively interacting with project management staff, clients, and customers
  • Excellent verbal, written communications, and computer skills
  • The ability to provide a proactive approach to safety, to include identification of operational and organizational issues, as well as develop and implement strategies to solve them
  • Experience in conducting Industrial Hygiene testing and sampling
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with clean abstract


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometers northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on and 3 days off, ten hour days.
