Summary

The person in this position will work on geotechnical engineering projects for mine tailings storage facilities that involve traditional geotechnical and civil analysis and design related to shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, seepage, bearing capacity, settlement, earth retention, and dams. Projects also entail completing other traditional geotechnical and civil analysis and design work related to slope stability, seepage, earth retention, and dams. Responsibilities include performing geotechnical computer modeling; specifying and interpreting soil and rock investigations, including drilling and cone penetrometer testing; overseeing on-site and in-laboratory material testing; and installing instrumentation. Work also involves completing geotechnical and civil aspects of alternatives analyses and feasibility studies, as well as preparing plans and specifications, reports, and cost estimates. In addition, client management, business development, project management, mentoring and coaching, project planning and scheduling, and workload estimating are part of this role. It requires periodic out-of-town assignments.

  • 10 years of related work experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification, or ability to obtain within one year
  • Strong geotechnical analysis and design skills

  • Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
  • Proven project management experience
  • Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in geotechnical engineering
  • 15 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience working in consulting engineering
  • Strong relationships with clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service

NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and must be able to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Position will occasionally require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given fieldwork assignments. Applicants will be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of clients.
