Our client, Lihir Gold Limited, operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). The Role

We are seeking a Superintendent - Road Maintenance and Drainage. The role will expect you to plan, lead and manage road maintenance and drainage activities for the Mining department in support of departmental periodic targets and KPIs, short, medium and long term strategies, resourcing and budget management, to ensure the Mining department meets production and processing needs safely and at the lowest cost.

Your role will include but not be limited to the following:
  • Ensure road maintenance work is conducted by competent workers in accordance with established procedures.
  • Manage and control the road maintenance budget.
  • Continuously improve road maintenance strategies at lowest cost.
  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours with workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Manage a diverse work team with effective management skills/techniques whilst actively promoting the training and development of National and Lihirian staff.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Tertiary qualified Bachelor Degree in Surface Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • At least 10+ years relevant work experience in mining and civil road works in large-scale open pit mining operations.
  • Sound understanding of the PNG Mine Safety Act and Regulations.
  • A high degree of competency in MS applications.
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written, communication and public speaking skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines

Mobilisation Requirements:
  • Must be open to work extended roster due to COVID.
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • This is initially a FIFO role to Lihir with a view to going residential in the future.
