The Role:

We are seeking a junior Hydrogeologist position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Senior Hydrogeologist, the purpose of this role is to provide support to the Mine Hydrogeology/Dewatering Operations in terms of Hydrogeological and hydrological evaluations, monitoring, planning and management of all water related works and activities to ensure all pit water aspects are addressed at the mine in a timely manner.

Essential criteria:
  • 3 - 5 years relevant work experience with relevant Mine Operational Water Management hand-on skills and experiences within a large-scale complex processing plant or heavy industry essential.
  • Ability to visualise geology and conceptualise groundwater behaviour in three dimensions (3D).
  • Experience with Surface Water & Groundwater Database Management, which involves monitoring, data quality assurance and quality control, analysis and reporting.
  • Understanding of the groundwater setting for each pit to provide the right advice when issues emerge during mining operations
  • Experience in Installing new systems (data loggers, vibrating wire piezometers, standpipes, etc.) and ongoing maintenance of hydrogeological installations;
  • Can carry out or supervise the groundwater monitoring from existing equipment (ie., vibrating wire piezometers and standpipes)
  • Demonstrated basic project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with internal and external stakeholders and providing support to Upper Management in all related Site water requirements and expected Mine deliverables/targets.

Qualifications:
  • Tertiary bachelor's in science preferably in Geosciences essential - Geology/Hydrology, Civil Engineering with Environmental Management
  • Exposure to use of Mining 3D and 2D Software - MineSight, Vulcan, Golder Software (Surfer, Grapher), ArcGIS

Requirements:
  • Open to PNG nationals only. Women candidates are mostly welcomed to apply
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last 6 months
