Globe 24-7 in partnership with Newcrest Mining, is working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their Development & Planning Team - Business Improvement for their new Brisbane-based office to support their Lihir Gold Operations (LGO).

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Technician - Dewatering for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor - Dewatering, you will be required to operate all dewatering equipment including the installation of both bore and Diesel Pumps and, installation of dewatering infrastructure to ensure the safe and effective implementation of shift mining schedules to achieve the Lihir Mine Plan.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Conduct routine checks on mine dewatering pumps and equipment to ensure all equipment is fit for purpose, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Prepares for and carries out mine dewatering activities in compliance with all Newcrest Mining Limited Health Safety & Environment (NML HSE) requirements.
  • Ensures mine dewatering equipment is inspected for serviceability, cleaned and returned to storage after each use.
  • Ensures mine dewatering equipment is maintained as well as ensuring documentation, maintenance and service records for equipment are complete and kept up to date.
  • Recognizes problems and proactively works towards resolution under the guidance of immediate Supervisor.
  • Effectively manages own time to complete tasks in line with job expectations and requirements adjusting plans to cater for unforeseen events or disruptions.


Essential criteria
  • Relevant TVET or Technical Training Essential
  • 3-5 years work experience essential in mining and or heavy industry essential.
  • Minimum Grade 10 level of education essential.
  • Demonstrated experience with Multiflo Dewatering Pumps, Bore Pumps and Poly Welding equipment
  • Ability to undertake regular checking of all dewatering equipment, conduct pre-start inspections and, identify and report any defects identified
  • PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously out in the field
  • Strong safety focus and a sound knowledge of standard mine operating procedures
  • Good interpersonal skills and can present information clearly to supervisors and other mine personnel
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.


Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrated experience with operating Multiflo Dewatering Pumps, Bore Pumps and Poly Welding equipment
  • (highly desirable).
  • Previous dewatering experience within mining industry (highly desirable).


The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
