We are looking for Senior Mine Planning Engineer to drive the development of life of mine plans and strategies to maximize value of the Bingham Canyon resource and mitigate business risk.

This is a great opportunity for a Mining Engineer to ensure mine plans have technical assurance and risks are identified and quantified to support investment proposals.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor Strategic Mine Planning and working in a collaborative community within the Kennecott Utah Copper Team, you will:
  • Develop and communicate mine plans and strategies to support evaluation and senior management decision-making regarding risk and value profiles of life of mine plans.
  • Communication and management of significant risk involved in development and implementation of the mine plan including geotechnical risk.
  • Application of mining economic evaluation techniques including cut-off grade analysis, risk assessment, and value optimization.
  • Ownership and custodian of key mining systems and processes including pit slope design and production scheduling.
  • Work closely with the medium range mine planning team to generate life of mine plan forecasts.

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Strong capability in mine design and production scheduling software (MineSight, COMET and Whittle or equivalent).
  • Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure mine plans are integrated across ore body knowledge and the business.
  • Strong communication skills including preparation of technical reports and presentations to senior management.
  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years Mine planning experience in large open cut mining environments or complex poly-metallic value chains.

It will be beneficial if you have:
  • Experience in life of mine planning software (COMET or equivalent)
  • Exposure to mining studies and development of project evaluations for funding and investment proposals.
  • Knowledge of financial drivers and financial evaluation techniques.

Where you'll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
