Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Mine Controller, the Project Controls Accountant performs moderately to complex accounting and financial activities in accordance with the company's policies and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This position will focus on project controls, cost analysis, month end processing (three (3) business days following end of month), budgeting and forecasting assistance to the Mine Controller and General Manager.

Specific Duties

•In collaboration with the Management team, forecasting expenditures, planning budgets, classifying costs, tracking man-hours, verifying supplier invoices, and managing change events that impact the project budget & closeout of major outage financial reporting.

•Assist in the monthly financial close processes including reviewing monthly cost reports; analysis of actual to budget variances; necessary journal entries.

•Review all coding for both Purchasing and Accounts Payable processing ensuring all documentation and entries are accurate including resolving goods received not invoiced and problem invoices.

•Assist in the design and development of effective budgeting and forecasting models.

•Review documentation for contracts and monitor status of contracts, including maintaining project-related records, including milestones, change orders, update Gantt Charts and insurance obligations

•Resolve contractor and supplier performance issues where needed to prevent reoccurrence in conjunction with the Mine Controller and General Manager.

•Assist in the preparation and review of Approval For Expenditures ("AFE") including preparation and coding of subsequent purchase requisitions/orders.

•Preparation of monthly reports on AFE spend and analysis ensuring accounting for capital projects is accurate and appropriate.

•Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills:

•Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

•NAV experience is preferred.

Education and /or Experience:

•Bachelor of Science in Accounting, finance or business administration

•Enrolled in a designated accounting program or having a professional designation (CA/CGA/CMA/CPA) preferred

•3-5 years' experience in auditing/accounting or working as an analyst/consultant.

•Preferable to have experience in mining/construction related companies.

•Strong attention to detail and critical thinking and analytical skills

•Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff in the organization and working with cross functional teams.

•Strong initiative and ability to perform as part of a team, self-motivated and possess the ability to prioritize work.

•Requires the ability to coordinate own efforts such that they meet business deadlines and willing to work overtime, if necessary

•Strong analysis, problem solving & continuous improvement mind set, preference is by having improvement knowledge such as Six Sigmas.

Language Skills:

•Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and be able to work with difficult people under high stress situations.

•Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive relationships and act courteous and respectful of others.

Other Skills and Abilities:

•Ability to work within a team environment.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

•American Institute of Certified Practicing Accountants (AICPA) Membership

Criteria/Conditions:

•While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stair and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.

•May be required to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.

•The work is in an outdoor mine setting which requires hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, protective clothing, gloves, and other protective equipment as required by law.

•Successfully complete background check and maintain a valid USA driver's license.

•We are a drug/alcohol free work environment using mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per all applicable laws.

•This work is in a mine and plant setting which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.
