The Data and Visualisation team in SRK Consulting (UK) Ltd comprises of Data Services, Visualisation, CAD and GIS specialists.  The team supports the needs of the Mining, Geology and Geo Environment technical groups and covers a broad range of skills from visualisation to geographic analysis and data engineering.  As a team we innovate and push the boundaries of the technologies we use and deliver high quality work incorporating the latest visual and automation software.

Most of our work involves projects in Africa, Europe, Russian Federation and CIS countries and a minor amount elsewhere, depending upon where our clients’ projects are located.  Our clients include major/mid-tier/junior mining companies, financial organisations and, occasionally, governments.

While SRK aims to provide a strongly supportive technical atmosphere with the required level of staff sufficient to meet our work requirements, it is realised the nature of consulting can require extra effort (out of hours work) from team members to meet deadlines.

Role:

We currently have an opportunity for a CAD Technician working within the Data and Visualisation Team to support CAD across the business providing expertise and technical support at project level.

Your role would be to provide technical and design support for engineering studies and earthworks construction; be responsible for modelling 3D designs and layouts; perform volumetric calculations and quantity estimates; and, produce figures and drawings ranging from conceptual models and sketches to detailed design and construction drawings.

You will also be required to provide additional GIS and Visualisation support to team members as required.

Essential Requirements:

Experience/Skills to include:  

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D and the ability to produce high-quality designs and drawings for our clients;
  •  Competent experience with the latest versions of Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Prior industry experience in modelling earthworks and/or mining
  • Prior experience with the following Civil 3D features; Grading objects, Surface creation, Isopachs (volume surfaces), Corridors and Alignments, Material quantity takeoffs and Stage Storage analysis;
  • Ability to use and process international geographic datasets
  • An interest in exploring different ways of improving data, design and working with visualisations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse teams ranging from all levels of staff, engineers and scientists;
  • Excellent organisational skills with good attention to detail
  • Ability to be proactive and work under pressure, either independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to rapidly learn new software as required
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and to prioritise workload effectively
  • Willingness to proactively engage with consultants/clients to maintain and improve the quality of output maintaining excellent communication
  •  Innovative and clear thinking, able to work with complex problems and to present ideas and data to colleagues and clients to find solutions.

Desirable:

  • To be an Autodesk AUTOCAD Certified Professional
  • To be an Autodesk CIVIL 3D Certified Professional
  • Experience in Civil Infrastructure, Highway Design and Drainage Design
  • Previous experience setting up coordinate systems in Civil 3D or Map 3D
  • Working knowledge of GIS or experience using GIS software packages including ArcGIS, Global Mapper, MapInfo and QGIS
  • Experience working with point cloud data and LiDAR processing
  • Competent user in mining software such as Deswik, Surpac and Muk3D
  • Experience of graphics and visual representation with an ability to present data and information effectively
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat

Duties/Responsibilities overview: 

  • Preparation of detailed design drawings plans and cross sections for technical project work and reporting using AutoCAD Civil 3D. Providing support to all SRK Technical departments
  • Modelling of landforms such as storage ponds, waste dumps and tailings dams in AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Modelling of optimised road and ditch alignments in AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Balancing cut and fill volumes, volume calculations, stage storage analysis and surface analysis
  • Establish CAD standards to ensure consistency of delivery across all the departments
  • Provide additional GIS and Visualisation support to team members as required
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and consider ways to constantly improve CAD delivery in the most efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Time management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Motivation to learn, ask questions, improve process, and improve existing tools and methods;

Location:

UK office is based in central Cardiff

Hours of Work:

The normal working week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:30 with half hour lunch. However, there will be the need for working flexible hours to meet deadlines. Overtime is not payable.

Holidays

29 working days per annum inclusive of bank and public holidays. Leave increases with length of service.

Working Conditions

Primarily office based (Cardiff), however it is likely that occasional overseas travel will be necessary, to attend conferences and other SRK practices.
