Dimensions

This position will supervise the front line supervisors of the Dome Mill electrical/instrumentation department. They will be reporting to the Manager, Process Operations and Asset Management.

Purpose

To manage all aspects of the Dome electrical/instrumentation maintenance department. To ensure that maintenance work is performed in the safest and most cost-effective manner. To motivate and provide training, guidance, mentoring and succession planning.

Essential Duties

Safety and Environment
  • Ensure compliance with all site Health and Safety policies and procedures, and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Promote and ensure compliance to all other regulatory and environmental standards/requirements.
  • Ensure employees are trained, qualified and fit for the work they are performing.
  • Develop and promote safety procedures.
  • Ensure that a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all areas.
  • Promote and monitor the utilization of Newmont's Fatality Risk Management, Unsafe Condition programs, and incident reporting and accident investigations. Ensures timely follow-up and implementation of corrective measures.


People
  • Partner with contractors to ensure they have the trained personnel, information and motivation to work safely.
  • Complete performance reviews for all direct reports and ensure performance reviews are completed in a timely and professional manner for indirect reports.
  • Provide leadership and direction for electrical/instrumentation maintenance crews.
  • Participate in the hiring process for both staff and hourly employees within the department to ensure that new hires have the skills, qualifications and competencies required of them to become a contributing member of the team.
  • Provide a strategic role in ensuring that frontline supervisors are adequately trained to meet the requirements of the job.
  • Identify strengths and opportunities for training and development of team.
  • Guide and coach individuals towards reaching personal and company goals. (Career development).


Production and Costs
  • Responsibility for maintenance and management of assets/equipment within the department in such a manner as to ensure production and execution of the annual operating plan.
  • Liaise with mill/crusher and open pit departments to ensure maintenance activities enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of operations.
  • Provide input and offers his/her expertise and knowledge to the Mill Management team to help support decisions affecting production, maintenance, operational and safety issues.
  • Works closely with the Mill Management team on enhancement projects and initiatives that will yield benefits. Ensures timely execution of these initiatives.
  • Participates in strategic planning and preparation of annual maintenance and operating budgets.
  • Through workplace inspections, interactions, and improvement programs, develops modifications to mill/crusher equipment, procedures, and policies to improve safety, increase asset life and/or performance and reduce costs. Ensures that modifications will be cost effective.

Training & Experience

  • A Certified trades person or an Electrical Technician, Technologist, or Engineering background.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in fixed plant electrical/instrumentation operations
  • A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience
  • Technically competent
  • Ability to inspire and develop team members
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead others


Working Conditions

  • This position is located at Dome, part of Newmont's Porcupine mine site near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 5x2 schedule. As such, if you do not live near the site, we will require you to relocate.
