Our Red Chris mine is located on the traditional territory of the Tahltan, in Northern British Columbia and we encourage qualified applicants from the local communities to apply. We offer several designated marshalling points within Canada including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers and Calgary.

Who we're looking for:

We are seeking to recruit a safety-focussed and results-oriented Chief Metallurgist to join the Mill Operations team. You will provide guidance to the Metallurgical Department, developing plans, mentoring, and managing the Metallurgical structure.

In this role you will also:
  • Provide technical support to the Operations Team to ensure maximum and sustainable profitability
  • Direct technical input into the operation of the processing plants to ensure budget and forecast production targets are met in a safe, efficient, timely and cost-effective manner
  • Ensure that business objectives (safety, sustainability, production, innovation and growth) are converted into measurable short-term incentives and development plans
  • Drive idea generation and ensure innovation and continuous improvement are an ongoing focus
  • Provide medium and long-term inputs for production forecasting including, but not limited to development of the 3-month rolling plan, budget and Life of Province Plans

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will have extensive experience across mining processes in large base metal plant operations. You will have considerable experience with copper-gold bulk flotation, specialising in SAG and ball mill grinding circuits, mill liner design, pebble crusher optimization, mill throughput improvement, and mine fragmentation effect.

Further to this you have:
  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Extractive Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline
  • Demonstrable leadership experience with the ability to lead high performance teams
  • Strong detail and results orientation with the ability to multitask, and adhere to deadlines
  • A Professional Engineering (PEng.) designation or equivalent (highly desirable)

At Newcrest, we hold core values that focus on caring about people, working together and achieving a high-performance culture through innovation and problem solving. Newcrest's commitment to diversity and inclusion respects both the rights of every individual to work to their highest potential, free of discrimination, as well as the cultures, religions and governing codes applicable to each country in which we operate.
