The Opportunity

We are looking for an Engineer - Reliability to join the Rio Tinto Kennecott Asset Management team. The Reliability Engineer identifies and manages asset reliability risks that could adversely affect the plant or business operations. The Reliability Engineer role is fundamental to maximizing value from physical assets by increasing productivity, increasing reliability, optimizing life cycle costs and controlling risks.

Rio Tinto Kennecott is a fully integrated mining operation located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, US. Kennecott is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto. For more than 110 years, Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine. What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity to join a truly global mining organization that places a high priority on technology and innovation while continuing to develop your Reliability Engineering skill set. Reporting to a Superintendent - Reliability, you will proactively:

· Facilitate and manage the site Defect Elimination (DE) program.

· Use Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology to identify failure causes and develop solutions.

· Develop maintenance tactics using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Planned Maintenance Optimization (PMO) to minimize asset risk and maximize equipment uptime.

· Conduct reliability studies and reliability block modeling using approved reliability tools and methods.
  • Actively participate in the development and continuous improvement of Asset Tactics used in preventative maintenance (PM) and condition monitoring.

· Perform Life Cycle Cost Analysis on both new and existing assets.

· Track reliability metrics through a metrics dashboard to report reliability performance and verify that improvement is occurring.

· Collaborate with and assist Maintenance, Operations, Technical and Projects & Engineering teams.
  • Review CMMS (SAP) databases for equipment and work order history.

· Build and monitor/analyze trends in PI ProcessBook data historian.

· Monitor, study and improve quality of various data.

· Monitor, trend, quantify and communicate value generated by improvement projects
  • Generate and utilize Pareto Charts to identify bottlenecks, analyze equipment failures and prioritize allocation of resources for improvements.


What you will need for this role

Required Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. Related work experience and education will be considered in lieu of a degree.

· 3+ years of experience in reliability and/or field engineering in a maintenance role.

· Detailed knowledge of how to apply Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Planned Maintenance Optimization (PMO) and Root Cause Analysis techniques.

· Superior knowledge of fixed assets, materials of construction, chemical compatibility, and creation of standards.

· Experience with CMMS (SAP).

· Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

· Experience with Project Management

It will also be beneficial if you have:

· Experience facilitating Root Cause Analysis (RCA) workshops.

· A Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) certification

· Certification in any of the PdM technologies such as thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonic emission, vibration analysis, non-destructive testing etc.

· Experience using and integrating predictive and preventive maintenance tools, technologies, and practices.

· Experience developing maintenance tactics.

· 2+ year of experience in a leadership position.
