Our brilliant GM People & Culture - Utilities is about to embark on a new career pathway of parenting, so we are on the hunt for a senior HR leader to join our team during her parental leave (9 to 12 months).

Our role reports to the EGM People & Culture, with an operational reporting line to EGM, Utilities.

About the role:

This senior leadership role provides strategic direction and facilitates the delivery of people and organisation change across a business unit that delivers $540M of revenue with 2,500 employees. The role is fundamental in the development and execution of business strategy with a strong focus on people, growth, performance and operational excellence. You will champion a culture of high performance contributing to the success of the business and Downer NZ by developing organisation capability and positions us as the employer of choice in our industry.

The role facilitates clear governance and accountability for effective people processes and leads a team focused on business partnering to deliver business-enabling solutions, high quality advice and great service.

About you:

To be successful in this role the key competencies we are seeking are, but not limited too:
  • A suitably qualified senior HR practitioner with substantial experience in providing high level strategic and operational leadership within a large complex business
  • A proven track record of leading, motivating and developing high performance teams
  • Exceptional communication skills and a flexible, supportive approach
  • Experience in a senior level delivering proactive and contemporary solutions
  • The passion to be truly hands-on and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to achieve both short and long term objectives
  • An enquiring mind that will challenge the status quo while ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements
  • Highly resilient, with a strong work ethic and high energy levels
