Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Procurement Specialist to join our Business Practices, in Johannesburg office.

Our Technologies team is focused on the commercialisation and delivery of technologies across all three of Hatch’s sectors: Metals, Energy, Infrastructure. We’re a team of innovators and problem solvers who deliver custom and specialized engineering to deliver novel solutions and technologies.

In addition to developing new technologies and selecting and installing equipment in greenfield projects, we help our clients to get the most from their existing assets by providing field support, rebuild repairs, and retrofits. We also work with our clients to optimize their existing technologies to achieve the maximise benefit. 

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Participate in Vendors Management System
    • Manage vendors database including all related commercial documents (NDA’s, Special Terms and Conditions, Active Contacts, Financial guarantees, etc.…)
    • Conduct continuous Vendor Evaluation program based on vendor performance during projects
    • Participate in vendor selection strategy
    • Identifying suitable suppliers in South Africa to support different Hatch technologies requirements globally, review of supplier capabilities and desk top evaluations.
    • Coordinate with Engineering and Contracts to conduct regular technical and commercial evaluation for existing and new vendors
  • Spare Parts Business
      • Work with Hatch Sales organization to build the spare parts business
      • Act as the first point of contact for Hatch clients in Africa for spare parts requirements and coordinate with the rest of the organization to fulfill these requirements eventually becoming the spare parts regional PM
      • Spare Parts Requirements would vary from individual transactions to more developed asset managements and consignment agreements
  • Project Execution and Proposal Development
    • Perform Procurement and Expediting Tasks to support Hatch Technologies Design Supply and EPCM projects
    • Using Smart Material Planning to manage all procurement activities
    • Prepare Bid documents
    • Identify potential suppliers
    • Negotiate commercial terms and conditions with support from the commercial manager
    • Conduct and present bid evaluation with commercial and technical analysis
    • Place orders onto suppliers and expedite purchase orders
    • Generate and Present PPSR reports on regular basis
    • Prepare estimates for procurement support
    • Receive and pre-approve supplier invoices
    • Generate and present Project and Business commitment reports
    • Properly file all project and general business documentation according to Hatch guidelines
    • Take leadership role in procurement during large projects
    • Coordinate kickoff meetings and coordination meetings with successful suppliers and assisting with the associated logistics


  • You bring to the role:

    • Familiar using Smart Plant Material or other procurement system in all procurement activities.
    • CPP (Certified Professional Purchaser) or equivalent, in process, plus 3 to 8 years practical experience.
    • Global Procurement experience, specifically the acquisition of capital equipment/materials
    • Mechanical and Fabrication background will be an asset
    • Good understanding of Terms and Conditions and accompanying legal implications
    • Negotiation skills
    • A firm understanding of procurement processes and corporate governance principles
    • Knowledge of Incoterms, freight forwarding and other activities related to local and global purchasing and movement of equipment/materials across borders
    • Good understanding of applicable legislation including taxes and industry specific tariffs
    • Sound commercial knowledge with respect to performance and risk mitigation mechanisms and exhaustive detailed commercial evaluation skills.
