The Role

We are seeking an experienced Technical Specialist - Electrical and Instrumentation for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor - Electrical and Instrumentation, you will be responsible for To direct the day to day operational and maintenance activities of the Asset Management E&I teams in order to deliver reliability & minimum interruption to facilities during regular operations and provide technical support during plant shutdowns.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Provides electrical and instrumentation technical assistance and support to the operations, maintenance, and technical services representatives responsible for crushing, grinding, flotation, leach and gold recovery areas.
  • Monitor the maintenance activities performed by the national workforce on the instrumentation and control equipment in the assigned area in line with the maintenance schedule
  • Selects and sizes instrumentation and valving in accordance with process design criteria managing the instrument tag databases including the revision and allocation of new tags.
  • Ensure that all instruments and valves are installed and commissioned in accordance with existing site standards and specifications and any changes to existing plant instrumentation as requested through the work order system is in accordance with the departments change management procedures.
  • Recommend new installations or modifications to improve plant control performance or replacement of defective or obsolete instrumentations for control equipment systems and subsystems.
  • Supervise and monitor the progress of all types of routine, breakdown and planned maintenance activities, so as to minimize down time for the equipment for increased plant productivity.
  • Ensures instrument documentation (P&IDs, datasheets, instrument list, loop and termination drawings etc) are revised in accordance with industry standards and kept up to date in an auditable format.
  • Provides input to the development of a preventative maintenance strategy based on leading industry practices to meet both electrical and instrumentation reliability requirements providing advice on the management and improvement of asset performance

Essential criteria
  • 5+ years relevant work experience essential including 3 years as a supervisor.
  • Experience in a large mining or heavy industrial environment in electrical and instrumentation roles with significant High Voltage Switching and HV power reticulation experience.
  • PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential

Desirable criteria
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills including project execution management experience.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training
  • Good verbal, written communication, and public speaking skills.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.

The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
