Position summary
The Business Services Centre (BSC) contributes to Downer's success by delivering scalable finance-related services. Services provided by the BSC to Downer Group include payroll, purchase to pay, accounts receivable, and travel and expense management. The delivery of these services is enabled by the combined efforts of BSC's solution advisory, solution training and systems accounting teams, together with change management, finance and human resources specialists.

The BSC payroll function has over 105 staff operating out of North Ryde NSW and Melbourne Vic. The BSC pays over 50,000 employees using SAP and Oracle Express HR. There are over 200 EBAs.
THE ROLE
The Payroll Project Officer is responsible for the completion of in scope project tasks on time and delivering quality outputs to the relevant lines of business.

The role is required to assist in the timely preparation of payroll related data, reconciliations, back pay calculations and payments, data analysis and other project duties involved in remediating payroll matters and future proofing payroll systems and processes. The role requires strong payroll process knowledge and significant experience with SAP.
  • Provide a responsive, accurate customer advisory service on payroll, resolve difficult enquiries and assist in identifying payroll errors and implementing corrective action where required to ensure employee payments are processed accurately and database integrity is maintained.
  • Prepare complex payroll data input and assist with checking, quality control and maintenance of records to ensure accuracy, service quality and data integrity.
  • Participate in project activities as they relate to Payroll systems initiatives including Continuous improvement projects
  • Establish minimum checking requirements for payroll officers, seniors and managers to check the payroll end to end process
  • Using payroll knowledge and Downer standards, apply quality checking of payroll output data before it is distributed to customers.
  • Develop and perform standard reporting queries in the relevant payroll software or in Excel to identify inconsistencies in Masterfile data, missing data and other integrity problems in payroll functions.
  • Manage set of metrics on payroll errors and accuracy with the Payroll Team Leaders
  • Sign off level for payroll audits and certain payroll practices or as directed


ABOUT YOU
  • Significant payroll experience
  • Demonstrable delivery of timely and accurate HR/Payroll services in an autonomous role with a high volume of transactions (minimum 600-700 employees)
  • Significant experience using SAP (essential) and Spinifex
  • Extensive experience in payroll processing
  • Extensive experience in applying legislative payroll requirements centred around EBA/Award management, tax and employment law.
  • Experience in manual back pay calculations and manual leave accrual calculations
  • Experience in understanding EBAs and how to apply this to payroll processing
  • Experience in data analytics
  • Experience in working alongside different business stakeholders and communicate via phone and email
  • Previous experience working in a Shared Services environment will be highly regarded
  • Financial reporting background eg, General Ledger reconciliation and journaling
  • Quality Assurance/Compliance background (preferred but not essential)
  • LEAN process improvement knowledge (preferred but not essential)
  • HR experience (preferred but not essential)
